Strategic Planning Director directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range goal planning function. Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals. Being a Strategic Planning Director analyzes emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and sources of capital. Establishes and retains relationships with industry analysts and the investment community. Additionally, Strategic Planning Director utilizes data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options effectively. Develops reporting and tools to communicate strategic plans and concepts to leadership. Conducts periodic status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Strategic Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Strategic Planning Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • The Strategic Development Director partners with operational leaders to support the overall strategic planning process, linking new business opportunities to development activities which support and improve key performance indicators. This individual serves as a key stakeholder for all business development/capture initiatives while managing a team of business development/capture professionals to provide operational leaders with data, information, and expertise to facilitate thoughtful, knowledge-based business decisions. The Strategic Development Director continuously monitors internal and external trends to effectively plan for and adapt to dynamic competitive pressures, aligning organizational growth objectives with customer/industry demand. This individual identifies, develops, and implements near-term and long-term business strategies that provide an opportunity to execute new business.

    Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

    • Works closely with business leaders to identify key strategic questions, scope analysis, assign resources, manage execution, and report findings
    • Establishes priorities, workload, and workflow across a diverse portfolio of businesses to ensure efficient resource allocation
    • Supports due diligence evaluating potential geographic expansions, partnerships, joint ventures, new business/market opportunities and sustainability to determine if such activities are in line with the organization's overall strategy and vision
    • Builds alliances and influences the divisional implementation and execution of the developed strategy
    • Oversees the day-to-day strategic and operational business development activities conducted by the Strategic Development team
    • In partnership with the Strategic Support team, manages sales and marketing functions of the business
    • Develops and implements mid to long-term internal plans to optimize the Strategic Development team’s enterprise value through process improvements, human capital management and development, and organizational structure engineering
    • Supports activity to penetrate new markets, increase market share within existing performance areas, and improve our competitive position within our industry
    • Maintains relevancy with industry and technological changes that impact the business
    • Leverages strategic B2B and B2G relationships with senior-level leadership to provide innovative technical solutions aligned with customer/end-user expectations
    • Manages key stakeholder relationships, keeps the business leadership team informed, and engages in advancing strategic partnerships with clients and industry partners

    Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of Business Development/Capture related experience or a mix of experience in Business Development/Capture and Operations working with the Federal Government, including 8 years of experience supervising or leading teams or projects
    • Must have experience of working in a corporate/business focused environment
    • Experience in working with senior management to align capture strategies and solutions
    • Possess strong problem-solving skills, project management experience, and strategic acumen – in combination with a practical, action-based mindset. Analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative, are also critical.
    • Proven track record of successful capture and pipeline management of opportunities with a value of $300M or greater across multiple organizations and program offices at a variety of acquisition sizes
    • Demonstrated access to key government customers and industry partners
    • Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish a solid working relationship with senior management, technical staff SMEs, and peers.
    • Natural leader with an entrepreneurial approach to motivating business development/capture teams
    • Exhibits a combination of integrative thinking (pulling insights and perspectives from disparate sources into synthesized ideas) and the ability to question the status quo and generally accepted beliefs.
    • Excellent negotiation skills, proven track record of successfully pitching for new business
    • Highly strategic outlook and a natural marketing ability
    • Ambitious and target-focused with a drive to succeed
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
