Strategic Planning Director directs and oversees an organization's strategic and long-range goal planning function. Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals. Being a Strategic Planning Director analyzes emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, the viability of outside business partners, and sources of capital. Establishes and retains relationships with industry analysts and the investment community. Additionally, Strategic Planning Director utilizes data-driven methodologies to analyze business performance metrics and process improvement options effectively. Develops reporting and tools to communicate strategic plans and concepts to leadership. Conducts periodic status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Strategic Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Strategic Planning Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. As A Key Member Of The Leadership Team, The Assistant Planning Director Will Perform Professional, Analytical, And Administrative Work In Support Of The Planning Department’s Core Functions Of Current Planning, Long Range Planning, GIS And Code Enforcement. Specifically, The Assistant Director Manages The Current Planning And Development Review Functions Of The Department; Oversees A Multidisciplinary Development Review Team; Acts As Project Manager For Specific Projects; Provides Information, Technical Assistance, And Professional Guidance To Developers, Attorneys, The General Public, Planning And Zoning Commission, Board Of Adjustment, City Council, Other Boards And Commissions, City Management, And Staff, And Functions As The Acting Planning Director In His Absence, Among Other Duties. Kannapolis Expects To See A Continued Trend Of Positive Growth In Both Residential And Commercial Development Because Of The City Council’s Emphasis On Strategic Economic Development Policies And Investments, Along With A Strong Regional Economy. Numerous Subdivisions, Apartment, And Townhome Communities; Commercial And Industrial Projects Have Been Approved Or Are In The Process Of Being Approved. In Addition To The Continued Development Of The Expected $375 Million Downtown Revitalization Effort, Several Additional Growth-related City Priorities Have Been Established For The Next Five Years, Most Of Which The Assistant Planning Director Will Be Actively Engaged. The Assistant Planning Director Will Also Assist In Implementation Of The Move Kannapolis Forward 2030 Comprehensive Plan, And The Recently Overhauled Kannapolis Development Ordinance. The Department Also Supports The Work For The Planning And Zoning Commission And Board Of Adjustment And Works Collaboratively With Other Departments Including Engineering, Economic And Community Development, Customer Service, And Parks And Recreation. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess A Bachelor’s Degree With Coursework In Planning, Geography, Architecture, Urban Design, Public Administration Or Related Field And 5 To 7 Years Of Experience In Public Sector Planning, Including Some Supervisory Experience. A Master’s Degree In Planning, Geography, Architecture, Urban Design, Public Administration, Or A Closely Related Field Preferred. AICP Certification Preferred.
