Distinguishing Features of Work

This is technical planning support work preparing plats, graphics design, and / or audiovisual presentations. Work is ordinarily performed under the direction of a supervisor who makes assignments according to instructions and in conformity with planning principles and procedures.

Work is reviewed in progress and on completion.

Examples of Work Performed

• Develops graphic and written presentations of planning problems and their solutions.
• Assists in preparing maps, plats and related charts.
• Develops layouts and graphic design for reports, posters, brochures and PowerPoint presentations.
• Takes photographs.
• Performs simple drafting and graphics work.
• Updates graphic illustrations of platting and zoning records.
• Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.

• The City of Wichita reserves the right to assign additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements of Work

• Knowledge and skill in graphic design and website development.
• Ability to make moderately complex mathematical computations.
• Ability to perform routine drafting assignments in ink or pen.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to use art, audiovisual, photographic equipment and drafting tools.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, and representatives of other organizations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
• An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Required Experience and Training

Two years of specialized training with two years of experience in graphics design required. Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in graphics design preferred,

Proficiency in some computerized graphics applications to include ESRI Arc View / Arc GIS, Microsoft Front Page, Adobe Suite and Microsoft PowerPoint is required.

Valid Driver's License's required.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

Offers of employment will be made contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which will include drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a police records check.

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
