Strategic Planning Manager manages the analytical and research activities supporting an organization's strategic, short-term, and long-range goal planning function. Oversees data collection and conducts organizational reviews to identify the business's strengths and weaknesses and evaluate operational effectiveness. Being a Strategic Planning Manager leads the research of emerging trends, expansion opportunities, competitive threats, and the viability of outside business partners. Develops recommendations for internal business process improvement. Additionally, Strategic Planning Manager designs and executes methods to track and measure organizational performance data to use for planning. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Strategic Planning Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Strategic Planning Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. This is achieved through collaboration with key enrollment, academic, and university administration and staff/faculty to develop and execute strategic solutions to help ensure achievement of defined enrollment goals for Andrews University. Involvement in or oversight of other University marketing initiatives beyond student enrollment marketing initiatives is also a responsibility of this position.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Leads the strategic direction of the marketing team with support from the VP for Strategy, Marketing & Enrollment (40%)

    Leads marketing research and planning for a data-driven model to marketing (25%)

    Supports the web team with marketing-related projects (15%)

    Develops and tracks the marketing budget, manages staff, serves on various committees and work groups across campus as assigned (20%)

    Supervisory responsibilities

    Responsible for supervising the marketing team, which includes a general marketing manager, marketing coordinator for distance education, senior design manager, and communication & data coordinator. As appropriate, also collaborates with and sometimes oversees student, faculty and contract workers as needed to effectively meet the strategic needs of Andrews University. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

    Qualifications

    Advanced degree in communication, humanities or marketing preferred, bachelor’s degree required. Skilled in interpersonal relations, project review and management, and in overall editorial issues, including writing, copy-editing and design.

    Oral and written expertise in English. Ability to write well and high degree of editorial skill.

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and for budgeting purposes.

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


    Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

    Technical competencies

    Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools. Knowledge of CRM and other marketing tools preferred.

    Interpersonal interactions

    Must be comfortable in a team environment with strong collaborative skills. Must connect comfortably and professionally with all the people who interact with this office: administrators, faculty, staff, students and vendors. Must have a warm, patient and friendly personality and be willing to help clients according to their needs. Must be a team player and fit comfortably with the office atmosphere and philosophy of service. Must have natural customer service skills, including the ability to address and resolve conflicts.
