Job Description
Virginia Tech’s Department of Computer Science (CS) seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Strategic Relationships Manager to lead CS|Source and other departmental initiatives involving industry and corporate relationships.
CS|Source is the CS Department’s tech-talent hub, which provides a pathway for enriching, reciprocal relationships and engagement opportunities between the department’s students, faculty, and researchers and its industry partners. All external companies wishing to engage in activities with CS students first become members of CS|Source. Once members, they have multiple options (depending on their membership type) to take part in the bi-annual CS|Source Career Fairs, professional workshops, information sessions, panel discussions, etc.
Reporting to the Director of Administrative Operations for CS, the Strategic Relationships Manager position serves as the point of contact for CS/Source members and ensures the proper stewardship of their investments and contributions. This position is a member of the External Engagement unit in the department and works closely with the events specialist, the communications manager, the alumni relations manager, and the project manager.
The Strategic Relationships Manager is responsible for:
Updating annual member benefits;
Creating information packets to share with potential members;
Ensuring proper enrollment and renewal processes through the member management system (XCatalyst);
Working with members to develop and execute compelling engagement opportunities with students on campus;
Organizing and executing the CS|Source Career Fairs each semester in Blacksburg and at the Virginia Tech campus in the Washington, DC, area;
Composing and sending weekly newsletters to students sharing job, internship, and event announcements;
Regular and ongoing communication with CS|Source members about opportunities for engagement.
This highly visible position requires significant communication and customer service skills and a proactive approach to engaging external and internal constituencies. The ideal candidate is exceptionally professional, well-organized, and detail oriented and will work well independently and in a collaborative, team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or relevant administrative experience.
- Clear and professional written and oral communication skills.
- Outstanding customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated accountability for work accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other applications within the Microsoft 365 suite.
- Demonstrated strength in process improvement and problem-solving.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a range of constituents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, public relations, communications, or related field.
- Experience working in an advancement, donor relations, membership, fundraising, and/or stewardship role.
- Experience using member management software.
- Experience in a higher education, military, or non-profit environment
