The Thermal Acoustical Solutions segmentoffers a full line of innovative engineered products to assist in noise and heat abatement within the automotive and industrial markets. The business manufactures acoustical damping and thermal insulating solutions comprised of fiber and metal based composite product constructions. These products are typically found in the interior (dash insulators), underbody (wheel well, fuel tank, exhaust) and under hood (engine compartment) of passenger vehicles, heavy duty trucks, recreational vehicles as well as in other industrial applications. The segment employs approximately ~1400 employees with operations in the U.S., Germany, France and China.
Job Summary:
- The Materials Manager is responsible for production control, supplier scheduling, inventory management and logistics.
Job Duties:
- Create a world class team of “A” players through constant coaching, delivering candid feedback and taking appropriate actions in a timely manner.
- Manage department associates to create a team-based environment, with open/candid communications and direct accountability to ensure the department operates at a very efficient level.
- Confer with other members of management personnel, subordinate members of supervision, and general workforce to establish and follow production and quality control standards, develop budgets and cost control measures.
- Deliver world-class delivery, inventory and supplier performance with a focus on quality, on-time delivery and competitive costs.
- Utilizing lean manufacturing and six-sigma techniques to eliminate all non-necessary inventory to reduce working capital and drive toward single piece flow.
- Drive toward the implementation of pull scheduling via the use of Kanban.
- Monitoring all department and plant metrics to ensure all resources are working on the greatest “value adding” opportunities.
- Monitor process quality (hands on) to ensure all deliverables are achieved by department associates.
- Review and analyze production, quality, shipping, sales and other appropriate operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and/or shipping and/or receiving problems.
- As part of the leadership team, develop the annual business plan/tactical plan and ensure all department objectives are achieved as set in the plan.
- Plan and implement ideas for the optimum utilization of equipment, personnel, and supplies to achieve departmental objectives in the most cost effective manner possible.
- Maintain oversight of all hourly personnel actions within Materials Department.
- Recommend and take corrective action in compliance with quality audits, issues, etc.
Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field; or 5 plus years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience break down supply chain base.
- Must demonstrate good management skills and be capable of evaluating and staffing Materials organization with strong players.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Lead Manufacturing floor in Material Visual Controls.
- Understand how to utilize MRP systems – Oracle preferred.
- Ability to develop a system to eliminate material line shortages and multiple schedule changes.
- Ability to manage inventory levels and increase inventory turns.
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of Manufacturing’s relationship to materials (receiving, min/max, WIP, manufacturing stage, finished goods).
- Achieve maximum floor efficiency by understanding finished goods floor layouts and putting them in place.

- Six Sigma experience a plus.
- APICS Certification
- Prior Automotive Experience
