    Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer for the RWESS Contract, supporting the Army Division. In your role as a Structural Engineer, you will directly support the flight testing of US Army rotary and fixed wing aircraft. You will design and implement structural components of airborne instrumentation systems on a multitude of aircraft platforms but understand that no two days will ever be the same. You will love this job if you appreciate the opportunity to work on military aircraft, like hands-on design, want to have design authority from conception through implementation, and want the opportunity to FLY in Army aircraft!

    LOCATION: Huntsville, AL

    JOB STATUS: FT

    TRAVEL:  10%

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

     

    • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in appropriate area of specialization or related discipline from an ABET accredited college/university and 6 years of experience performing engineering duties in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft; or a Master's Degree in Engineering in the appropriate area of specialization or related discipline from an accredited college/university and 4 years of applicable experience; or a PhD in Engineering in the appropriate area of specialization or related discipline from an accredited college/university, and 2 years of applicable experience.
    • Licensed AL Professional Engineer
    • Working knowledge of Army rotary and fixed wing aircraft
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain an FAA Class III medical certificate.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Government security clearance (Must be a U.S. Citizen).
    • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.

     

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

     

    • Proficient understanding of mechanical systems
    • Ability to read and create mechanical drawings
    • Experience with FEA software, preferably ANSYS
    • Ability to verify component structural integrity
    • Experience with Solidworks

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Serve as a senior mechanical engineer in the field of airborne instrumentation systems integration for the US Army Test & Evaluation Command, Redstone Test Center.
    • Survey aircraft for mounting locations and provisions of structural hardware.
    • Design structural components that allow the attachment of electronics and/or other hardware to be installed on aircraft.
    • Create models and drawings using SolidWorks software.
    • Work with our onsite machine shop on a regular basis.
    • Assist machine shop with component fabrication and mechanics with component installation.
    • Verify component integrity through analysis using classical and finite element analysis (FEA) methods.
    • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.
    • Present materials and designs to customers and staff.
