    Description

    The Director of Student Activities and Greek Life develops a culture of student leadership and involvement, empowering and assisting with the creation of a vibrant student experience. The Director is student-centered and provides leadership and vision, strategic direction, policy development, budget management, and oversight for the various programs and functions of the Student Activities and Greek Life. Student Activities and Greek Life serve as key components of the Student Engagement Center, which co-locates key areas of student engagement: Housing and Residence Life and Student Activities and Greek Life. The Director is responsible for the development and assessment of co-curricular programs/services designed to promote student learning and leadership, advance student success, and ensure a vibrant campus social life. The program supports clubs and organizations, assists students in creating a diverse and engaging calendar of events, and oversees the spaces dedicated to student programming. The Director provides guidance and supervision for professional staff members at the associate director, program coordinator, and graduate assistant levels. The Director serves as a senior member of the Campus Life Leadership Team.

This position will work collaboratively with staff and faculty across campus who lead current programs designed to promote inclusivity, including Posse, the LGBTQ Resource Center, International Student Success, the FirstGen Initiative, and HEOP/AOP, while creating and implementing programs that promote equity, access, and belonging within Student Engagement.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Through leadership of staff, the Student Activities and Greek Life umbrella, and collaboration within the Student Engagement Center:


    • Establish a vision for the program that incorporates best practices, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration in student activities within the Colleges’ mission.
    • Provide guidance and supervision for professional staff members at the associate director, program coordinator, and graduate assistant levels.
    • Promote a positive office environment and establish policies and procedures that support students’ development through their participation in clubs and organizations and their creation of an engaging calendar of events.
    • Oversee coordination of resources within the Scandling Center, the central student center, such as tabling, window marketing, and general organization.
    • Promote a comprehensive campus-wide events calendar
    • Oversee the Spring Concert series, including getting student support and interest, and implementing all logistics.
    • Utilize software platforms such as CampusLabs Engage, PeopleSoft, Unimarket, Maxient, etc.
    • Organize TIPS monitor training for all clubs and organizations
    • Manage salary and operating budget of approximately $500,000.
    • Collaboratively work with the Director of Housing & Residence Life to ensure seamless support in the co-located space, the Student Engagement Center.
    • Help with Housing and Residence Life functions, such as move-in, building liaisons, building inspections (Greek organizations).
    • Provide education to students on campus policies; serve as a conduct administrator for a variety of cases including (but not limited to) service as an Administrative Review Panel member and social hosting concerns.

    Through advising leadership of Greek Life:

    • Provide empowering leadership and advising to Greek Life to ensure that recruitment, leadership, and programming aligns with national data, trends at peer institutions, and the mission of HWS.
    • Assist Greek organizations with vision and goal setting.
    • Advise Greek Council and provide effective leadership development
    • Assist in the student-led creation of Greek events, including Greek Day of Service, Greek Week, and Social Events
    • Manage Greek Life accreditation through proactive encouragement and oversight
    • Assist students in the creation of new organizations, if desired, and help them be prepared for success.

    Through advising and leadership of clubs and organizations

    • Advise and assist HWS Student Government’s processes, such as Budget Allocation; provide administrative oversight of the allocation and distribution of components of the Student Activity Fee, specifically the Excess and Student Government’s Discretionary Funds. Manage financial transactions and reporting, as well as manage Budget Allocations and, with the business office, arrange for the appropriate financial transfers.
    • Help empower participation in student government (for example, compulsory attendance by clubs and organizations) at HWS SG meetings.
    • Continually assess, revise, and implement HWS’s Social Hosting Policies, and work to promote understanding of social event procedures
    • Work with students to analyze gaps in club and organization availability and helps students develop clubs and events that meets their needs
    • Encourage connections and collaboration between students and student organizations, including Athletics

    Through collaboration and partnership within the Division of Campus Life:

    • Serve in the Campus Life Administrator on-call rotation (approximately once per month)
    • Represent Campus Life as needed, such as at Admitted Student Days.
    • Assist with campus-wide projects, including, but not limited to, the execution of New Orientation, Spark! Projects, staff development, etc.
    • Collaboratively work with the Assistant Vice President for Campus Life, who manages a wide range of campus wide events across multiple divisions and departments
    • Support the strategic direction of the campus, such as the campus Strategic Plan
    • Collaborate with other offices and groups to support institutional and Campus Life objectives.

    This job description is not all inclusive and others duties may be assigned. As this position includes coordination and participation in student-led and campus-wide events, some nights and weekends will be required. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000.

    OTHER INFORMATION:

    Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes salary and benefits. Professional development support is also available. This is a full-time , live-on (campus housing in a small house is available, currently a three bedroom house) 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Evenings and weekends will be required. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will demonstrate:

    • Experience and understanding of the core values associated with a residential, liberal arts campus.
    • A commitment to healthy and enjoyable working relationships with others.
    • A well-informed educational background, with at least a master’s degree in Higher Education administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or a related field and five or more years of experience in higher education.
    • Experience working as an advisor to Greek Life, which is strongly preferred.
    • An enthusiastic mindset while incorporating empathy and a student-centered approach to a relationship-rich professional environment.
    • A deep understanding of Greek Life, club and organization leadership, and event management
    • Strong interpersonal skills to foster meaningful connections with students and the HWS community.
    • An ability to navigate complex situations and provide guidance that aligns with the values and goals the HWS.
    • A willingness to advocate for students, participate in proactive communication, and have a willingness to propose and implement new initiatives.
