The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $90,530 - $102,875/yr.

    Brief Summary of Job Duties

    Under the direction of the AS Executive Director, and working with the Assistant Directors independently oversees and builds teams to empower, mentor and support student and community participants in the area of student engagement, businesses and services. Sets ethical standards for a community with a public ethos, values of transparency, accountability and integrity. Supervises the Assistant Director for Independent Media, the Assistant Director Student Programs, Events and Services and the Assistant Director for Business Services. Ensures excellent stewardship of departmental resources.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must have expert knowledge of student development theories and practice along with considerable political acumen to handle sensitive and contentious issues.
    • Understanding of business practices.
    • Skill with assessment and measurement of programs of an intangible nature.
    • Knowledge and experience in strategic planning for a multi-faceted organization.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced knowledge of advising.
    • Skill in building consensus and in conflict resolution.
    • Ability to develop solid relationship between student government and independent media.

    Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

    35% Department Management and Planning - Working with and through the Assistant Directors, aids students and staff in developing and improving programs that enhance and complement student life and enrich the community. Develops and oversees process work for the unit. Define criteria for services and businesses assessing the including student need, student agency, balanced financial & cost considerations, structure and degrees of collaboration. Serves as a member of the AS management team to analyze and interpret policy and resolve problems of a wide degree of complexity especially those of a politically sensitive nature. Manages multiyear projects and provides students and staff with historical context. Provide vision and support for department projects. Facilitates discussion and coordinates options and resources across functional lines within AS and between AS and other organizations, entities, and stakeholders. Establish and maintain high-level partnerships across a variety of campus departments. Foster collaboration across all levels of the department.

    40% Assessment - Defines measures and conducts regular assessments of programs and processes. Develops and implements goals within the department strategic plan. Provides direction to Assistant Directors on more complex issues encountered. Provides student group advisement support to Assistant Directors including student-led project monitoring and recommendations. Analyses the efficiency of the systems to ascertain whether the resources are meeting the strategic planning goals of the organization as a whole. Evaluates the effectiveness of the services provided across the organization. Recommends which resources should be committed to goals and objectives and how they will be allocated. Produces quarterly reports assessing processes for the Executive Director.

    25% Supervision - Oversees the Student Engagement, Businesses and Services unit. Supervises the Assistant Director for Independent Media, the Assistant Director for Student Programs, Events and Services and the Assistant Director for Business Services. Independently determines goals and performance expectations for subordinates; recommends corrective actions, promotions, hiring, and separation of employees when appropriate and warranted. Provide guidance, vision, and motivational support to staff regarding fulfillment of responsibilities and for staff professional development. Through the Assistant Directors, is responsible for significant accountability and stewardship of AS resources.

    Other duties as assigned.
