    The Assistant Director of Student Activities will help maintain and oversee all functions of the Student Activities Office like answering phone calls, general student questions, and overseeing the Student Activities platform – LionLink. The MSSU Esports Coach oversees all aspects of the Esports program, including teaching, coaching, training, performance, and recruitment of student-gaming participants by performing the following duties.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Duties:

    Assistant Director of Student Activities

    • Coordinate logistics, such as event space reservations, equipment, and supplies, to ensure the successful implementation of activities.

    • Foster a vibrant campus community by engaging and connecting students through various programs and initiatives.

    • Collaborate with student organizations, clubs, and individuals to encourage participation in activities.

    • Provide leadership and direction to a team of student leaders or staff members responsible for planning and implementing activities.

    • Mentor and train student leaders to enhance their event planning and organizational skills.

    • Ensure that all student activities adhere to relevant policies, regulations, and safety standards.

    • Collaborate with campus departments, faculty, and community organizations to enhance the range and quality of student activities.

    • Build and maintain partnerships to secure resources and support for events.

    • Collect feedback and data on student activities to assess their impact and make improvements.

    • Use assessment data to inform decisions and enhance the quality of future events.

    • Maintain accurate records, attendance lists, and evaluations for all student activities and events.

    • Stay up-to-date with best practices and trends in student activities and engage in ongoing professional development.

    • Serve on campus committees or task forces related to student engagement and activities as needed.

    • Be flexible and willing to take on other responsibilities as needed to support the overall mission of the student affairs department and the university.

    Esports Coach

    • Performs management of all aspects of the Esports program to include coaching, scheduling, organizing and conducting practice, arranging for team travel, budget management, providing academic oversight, and public relations development.

    • Identifies and recruits academically qualified student-esport participants and counsels the student toward graduation.

    • Actively support the endeavors and advancement of the Missouri Southern Esports Program.

    • Conduct the Esport program in compliance with all applicable NACE, NCAA, MIAA, State, National and Institutional rules and regulations while actively promoting a culture of compliance.

    • Work effectively and collaboratively with Recreation staff, to ensure the overall positive physical and mental health and well-being of student-gamers.

    • Work effectively and collaboratively with the IT department, to ensure the overall security and efficiency of the Midwest Esports Center.

    • Communicates with members of the media.

    • Operates the Esports program in a fiscally responsible manner by following all University financial policies and procedures, while appropriately monitoring program budget and expenses.

    • Performs administration and support duties, including regular attendance at departmental/program meetings.

    • Monitors academic progress of student-gamers.

    • Develop and maintain quality relationships within the community both on and off-campus.

    • Conduct practices, tournaments, and exhibition games.

    • Assist in the solicitation of major gifts/sponsorship to the program (scholarships).

    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Education, Experience, and Licenses

    • Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university required.
    • Master's degree preferred.
    • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful Esport team coaching with experience in NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports).
    • Previous Esports Coaching Experience at any level is preferred.
    • Proven experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-gamers.
    • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university’s insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.
    • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire, and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically or gaming related activities as defined by the NCAA.

    • Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

    • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.

    • Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.

    • Proven ability to lead and manage people.

    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

    • Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport/game/program.

    • Knowledge of and commitment to NACE, NCAA rules and regulations.

    • The ability to organize and motivate the student gaming participants to maximum performance level in and academic achievement.

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, MIAA, and Division II programs preferred.
