Ability to learn and integrate new programs and systems. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and execute tasks with a high level of detail while maintaining efficient use of time. Experience with student governance, organization advising, and relevant university protocols. Excellent information-seeking skills and the ability to conduct independent research to solve problems. Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills facilitating effective relationships within an academic setting and the community at large; public speaking is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a law school (or other professional school) setting with an emphasis on coordinating programs to enhance student growth and professional development. Experience with student program development and event planning. Preferred Licenses and Certifications State Bar of Texas Essential Duties/Tasks Equal Justice Program With input from the department head, plans, directs, and coordinates the Law School’s Equal Justice Program, including establishing performance goals and measures to evaluate success. Builds and cultivates relationships with public interest and nonprofit organizations, providing student opportunities for professional development and service. Oversees the 30-hour pro bono initiative; work includes educating students on the process and criteria for satisfying the pro bono requirement, identifying and approving placement locations and tasks performed, and certifying completion of service as part of a student’s graduation audit. Participates in pro bono training and service as appropriate. Department-Sponsored or Student-Run Programs, Workshops, and Activities Coordinates large-scale department events, including Student Orientation and Commencement Advises student leaders of assigned organizations assisting in the execution of large-scale student-run events, including days of service, award banquets, galas, and fundraising initiatives. Coordinates a variety of department-sponsored programs, workshops, and activities promoting student professional development throughout the academic year. Budget preparation, monitoring, and reconciliation Department Development Participates in developing departmental strategic plans based on department goals. Plans department budget for items under the assistant director’s supervision and assists department head in planning and budgeting for the department as a whole. Provides leadership for the department along with and in the absence of the department head. Recommends departmental and programmatic changes following best practices standards while improving efficiency and effectiveness in policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with federal, state, institutional, and accrediting agency laws, policies, procedures, and standards. Data Collection and Analysis Maintains pertinent student records within areas of responsibility. Develops and administers assessment instruments to measure the effectiveness of projects and initiatives. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data (quantitative and qualitative) to produce internal and external reports, inform decisions, and guide actions. Responds to requests for information, preparing data in the desired format. Provides verbal and written activity updates upon request. Institutional Service and Professional Development Serves on committees, work groups, and task forces as assigned. Maintains membership and engages in the activities of relevant professional organizations. May work with inter-departmental project teams in the completion of special assignments. Completes continuing education training to improve skills and stay abreast of industry standards.
