    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    The Director, Software and Data Engineering is responsible for defining technical strategy / roadmap, guiding system architecture, ensuring technical product ownership and leading a team of highly effective technical managers and engineers to further advance the organization’s digital and analytics capabilities. S/he provides oversight for application architecture, design, development, and delivery of digital solutions and business insights to Members and Associates.

    In collaboration with Business (e.g., Member Experience, Product Management, Marketing) and IT (e.g., PMO, Infrastructure, Information Security) partners, the Director, Software and Data Engineering will lead the delivery efforts for enterprise-scale business solutions, actionable business insights, and frictionless member experiences while leveraging product-focused agile solution delivery processes, CI/CD automation and DevSecOps practices.   Additionally, s/he will be driving innovation efforts that deliver meaningful growth and operational efficiencies for the Credit Union.

    The Director, Software and Data Engineering must be an initiator, self-motivated, creative, agile, accountable, and must be able to balance efficiency with effectiveness.  Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are a necessity. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Work closely with Business and IT executives to ensure the team’s delivery and focus are in alignment with enterprise strategic goals and objectives.
    • Maintain oversight of all strategic and tactical initiatives; ensure that commitments are properly planned, staffed, monitored, and reported; coordinate activities and deliverables across multiple teams while resolving issues, removing roadblocks and ensuring priorities are aligned.
    • Lead solution delivery efforts on enterprise initiatives that require new / enhanced digital products and data analytics capabilities, and manage day-to-day baseline operations for accountable area / systems.
    • Provide strategic and tactical guidance on solving complex business problems by incorporating data engineering and analytics best practices and leveraging modern data science programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Scala, SAS) and Azure data and analytics services.
    • Partner with senior product management leaders to shape product roadmaps that deliver superior member and associate experience, drive organic growth and improve operational efficiency.
    • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends and best practices that can be leveraged to strengthen the Credit Union’s digital product offerings, data analytics capabilities, and engineering practices.
    • Lead vendor / RFP technical evaluation efforts, drive new product / solution proofs-of concept, and formulate new implementation strategies to foster innovation efforts that can deliver meaningful growth and operational efficiency for the Credit Union.
    • Support vendor contract negotiation, establish / maintain positive working relationship with key vendors / service providers, and manage their performance against established SLA’s.
    • Participate in the Annual Operating Plan process and manage expense against budget for accountable cost center.
    • Act as a player-coach by providing hands-on leadership for the architecture, design and development of new digital products / analytics solutions as well as day-to-day engineering activities while guiding / mentoring technical managers and leading / motivating the team towards common goals while maintaining a high level of performance. 
    • Drive continuous improvement in our agile solution delivery practices by focusing on engineering excellence, applying industry best practices, and collaborating with peers on architectural and security / compliance reviews.
    • Participate in the Integrated Business-Technology Steering Committee and Data Governance Committee.  Support established processes for centralizing intake of new requests, managing and prioritizing product backlog related to digital products and data analytics capabilities, and leading grooming and refinement activities.  Hold responsibility for and joint-ownership of digital banking products and enterprise data analytics platform.
    • Participate in Architectural Review Board (ARB) and Technical Change Control Committee (TC3) to ensure the effective and consistent management and implementation of systems within the organization.  Provide system / software deployment oversight and ensure that deployments are successful.
    • Lead 24x7 support activities of accountable production systems (e.g., digital banking, data analytics platform) to meet or exceed Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from an accredited college / university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline.
    • 10 years of hands-on software and data engineering experience in architecting, designing and delivering enterprise-scale business solutions.
    • 7 years of leadership and people management experience with an emphasis on coaching, mentoring, guiding and motivating team members on project / product delivery and career / professional development.
    • 5 years of experience in project leadership, resource planning, financial management, budgeting, RFP / vendor selection, and vendor / contract management.
    • Experience in leading solution delivery efforts in an agile environment with extensive working knowledge of test-driven development (TDD), component-based development (CBD), continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) and DevSecOps practices.
    • Proficiency in modern responsive web and mobile app development technologies like .NET, C#, C , Objective-C, Swift, Java, JavaScript, React.js, React Native, Figma and InVision, headless CMS, HTML5.
    • Demonstrable experience in enterprise level business intelligence/data analytics implementations using Azure cloud-based analytics platforms/technologies (including hands-on experience with Microsoft/Azure stack, e.g., Synapse, Data Factory, Data Bricks, Data Lake, Data Catalog, SSIS, SQL, etc., and NoSQL databases).
    • Hands-on experience with agile tools (e.g., ClickUp, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft DevOps), Gitlab, Postman, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, SSO, OAuth, cloud (AWS and Azure) services, and relational database (such as Microsoft SQL Server).
    • Working knowledge of / experience in on-premises and cloud architecture, design patterns, container technology, orchestration services, event-driven microservices, micro frontends, API management / gateway.
    • Ability to solve complex requirements with straight forward, elegant solutions.
    • Proven experience with leading business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, and methodology development.
    • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Ability to effectively manage and communicate expectations while under time constraints.
    • Strong people skills with ability to build relationships, instill confidence, and work with diverse personality types.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience in financial services (e.g., banking, asset management, insurance, mortgage, consumer & business lending) and / or fintech.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:

    • Vision sufficient to read instructions, procedures, source documents, reports, files, and information on video display terminals.
    • Manual dexterity to write and operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer. 
    • Body mobility to move to and from different work areas to access materials to perform the essential functions.  
    • Ability to bend and stoop to reach files/shelves including the strength to lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds, also to pull and push open file cabinet drawers.  Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule; this may include evenings, early morning, and weekends at times.      

     

    The targeted salary range is up to $180,000 annual base. Final offer will be determined based on experience, education, training/certifications and specialized skills.
