Additionally, Student Union Director typically reports to top management. The Student Union Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Student Union Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Student Veteran's Center Project Assistant to the Director

  • GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:


    This is a part-time, 25 hours per week, August 1-June 15 position located on the Emmetsburg or Estherville Campus. Primary responsibilities are to assist the Student Veteran’s Center Director in day-to-day operations including maintenance of the participant database, documentation of participant services, assist with certifying veteran benefits, and program reporting. Preference to individual with military background/experience. Position is contingent on continued grant funding. Position start date is October 1, 2023.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF THE TIME):

    Constant (67-100%)

    • Develop, maintain, and be directly responsible for a complete participant file system.
    • Maintain a current, computerized database containing participant demographics, statistical information, and correspondence.
    • Answer incoming phone calls, distribute mail, and track participant activity sign-up requests.
    • Maintain all project applications records and files/documentation.
    • Compile and interpret data for program planning, administration, and evaluation.
    • Assist with purchase orders.
    • Request printing materials as needed.

    Frequent (34-66%)

    • Assist students with questions regarding veteran benefits.
    • Request and/or pull reports from the college’s database system.
    • Maintain and update project forms, database, and other program information.
    • Coordinate monthly student club meetings and record minutes.
    • Assist with additional duties as needed.
    • Maintain project activity and staff binders.
    • Adhere to terms of the grant.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information for project database.
    • Thorough knowledge of office procedures, telephone techniques, office equipment, as well as correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic.
    • Represent the College and veteran programs in a positive manner with employees, students, visitors, and the general public.
    • Must be enthusiastic and energetic in the performance of assigned duties/responsibilities.
    • Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions or communication.
    • Ability to efficiently perform tasks in an environment with frequent interruptions.

    SPECIAL DEMANDS:

    Position involves sitting most of the time; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%). Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and repetitive motion occasionally (10-33%). Walking, lifting, and grasping frequently (34-66%). Talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work constantly (67-100%). May be required to travel utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.

    Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    High School graduate with at least two years of secretarial/administrative assistant experience or a degree/diploma in related field preferred. Military background/experience a plus.

    Salary: $16.49/hour
