    POSITION TITLE:                    Director of Student Support Services

     

    CLASSIFICATION:                  District Certificated Administrator

    REPORTS TO:                         Superintendent

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Full time, year around, 260 day contract; 30 days vacation; Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance; VEBA Medical Savings; Longevity incentive after five years;

     

    POSITION SUMMARY: Wahluke School District is seeking an experienced administrator to develop and direct the department of Student Support Services. This person will be responsible for grants such as but not limited to: AWARE, COPS, OSSI. Provide support for school administrators in school culture development, social emotional learning, and in the prevention, intervention and responses to student behavior, conduct and discipline. This will require the integration and coordination of services within and outside of the schools; policy development and interpretation to meet District, State, and Federal program requirements and needs; acting as the District Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Compliance Officer and 504 Coordinator;  promoting positive school cultures.  Act as the program director for PreK-12 academic counseling services; district-wide Safety & Security program; student & staff health services; community and family outreach. This administrator will serve as a member of the leadership team to help develop and implement District initiatives. 

     

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Manages a wide variety of program components (e.g. student support services, counseling and guidance, prevention programs, truancy prevention, health services, student transfer processes, discipline processes, related parent education programs, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines and regulations.

    • Supervise and direct the work of; District Social Worker, Counselor and Mental Health Specialist, Community and Family Outreach, department personnel 
    • Responsible for all functions of various grants assigned such as; AWARE, COPS, OSSI, School Safety Grants and programs to include but not be limited to: overall grant; write and submit applications and reports in timely manner; implementation; evaluation of overall impact; budgeting and tracking expenditures; compliance.  May be assigned other grants as needed.
    • Develops long and short range plans/programs and annual budget for the purpose of ensuring that the District’s resources are effectively utilized.

    • Coordinates various extra curricular activities for the purpose of enhancing student achievement and participation in assigned activities and complying with all relevant regulations.

    • Evaluates programs and/or projects (e.g. student support services, student intake for mental health and substance abuse referrals, counseling and guidance, prevention programs, safety and crisis intervention, etc.) for the purpose of carrying out and achieving objectives within area of responsibility.

    • Monitors student attendance and welfare programs (e.g. student discipline, suspensions, expulsions, student and parent complaints, attendance, transfers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that services comply with district, state and federal requirements.

    • Monitors fund balances of assigned programs and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.

    • Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of developing and /or evaluating programs and/or complying with financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.

    • Organizes and/or participates in meetings, workshops and seminars (e.g. expulsion hearings, district meetings and in-service programs, workshops, boards, counsels, committees, commissions, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and/or representing the district and assigned program(s) as is appropriate.

    • Performs personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, hiring, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.

    • Researches a variety of information (e.g. current processes, best practice strategies, methods, guidelines, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs and/or master plans.

    • Composes a wide variety of documents in both written and electronic formats (e.g. reports, memos, letters, policies, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.

    • Partner with community, County and State agencies and organizations to develop, and implement programs to coordinate services and meet various student program needs.
    • Attend community meetings such as Community Coalition, City Council, area medical providers, Desert Aire Safety & Security, various student and parent function;  serve as a liason and cultivate relationships.  
    • Develop and provide consultation of the PreK-12 PBIS program and ensure alignment among all buildings. 
    • Provide district-wide oversite and coordination of counseling services including PLCs; 504's documentation and implementation with counselors; Crisis Response Team.
    • Act as the direct and primary contact for all variety of emergencies and planning.
    • Supervise and coordinate Safety & Security components including by not limited to: lead district-wide PLC; maintain and update district and building safety plans and share with stakeholders; coordinate emergency planning; radios, phones, alarm systems, video camera systems, key systems; prepare, update and distribute student/parent handbooks; coordinate and evaluate  required and necessary trainings for Safety & Security
    • Coordinate services and responsibilities with School Resource Officer, service as liaison with agency provider
    • Oversee and coordinate community and family outreach programs and services to meet district need and grant or program requirements: Community Coalition, Drug Fee Community; Substance Abuse Professional; School Social Worker; Community Outreach; 

     

    OTHER FUNCTIONS:

    Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES 

    • Current Washington State Administrative certificate with Principal, Program or Superintendent endorsement
    • Master's degree in educational leadership or related to the job field.
    • Three years of successful school district administrative experience or organizations related to education. Experience as a principal is highly desireable.  Candidates with less administrative experience will be considered based on related experiences. 
    • Background and knowledge of educational student support services, counseling and guidance, prevention programs, truancy prevention, health services, discipline processes, related parent education programs desirable.
    • Strong academic preparation in related field.
    • Proven successful departmental/building management and leadership.
    • Professional knowledge and skills to build a structure of relationships so all children have the opportunity to learn and achieve their potential.
    • Must have understanding and knowledge of the characteristics of a rural, growing, diverse educational program.
    • Desire to become civically engaged and live in our community.
    • High level of personal energy, a positive outlook, approachable, visible, accessible, individual who demonstrates honesty, integrity, dependability, fairness and a sense of humor.
    • A caring individual, who respects, values and places the academic needs of all students as the priority of the school district.
