Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Subrogation Specialist, Sr. works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     General Purpose of Job  

    This position is responsible for effective inspection of the Cooperative’s electric system to ensure proper construction and maintenance of distribution and transmission facilities to assure an adequate and reliable supply of electric energy; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and construction standards, including but not limited to, National Electric Safety Code, RUS Construction, SECO specifications and safety guidelines.

    Education

    Major: 

    or Vocational/ technical school in an engineering related field  

     

     

    Experience 

    ​​Minimum​ 

    Five (5) years of significant and relevant experience in electric system design, distribution line construction, or construction inspection with an electric utility, consultant, or construction firm. 

    ​​Preferred​ 

    Experience with drone, thermography, or radio interference inspections. 

    ​​Preferred​ 

    Understanding of NESC and RUS requirements. 

     

    Education and/or Experience Notes 

    The equivalent of seven (7) years of directly related experience as Line Technician, Service Technician, Lead Line Designer, or work order inspector with a high school diploma or GED may be considered in lieu of degree.  

     

     Other Requirements   

    • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine.  Additionally, will use digital cameras, laser range finders, and handheld computing devices. 
    • Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations. 
    • A valid Florida driver’s license for regular driving privileges of a company vehicle; must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by SECO Energy. 
    • Become certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) (i.e., drones) within one (1) year of employment unless authorized by the VP of Engineering. 
    •    Frequent business travel to all areas of service territory required. 
    •    Normal work hours shall be eight (8) hours between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 
    • Irregular hours in evenings and on weekends are possible during peak business times and during storm season. 
    •    Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen.

    • Proficiency in the operation of personal computers and MS Office products; ability to acquire knowledge of the GIS system and other applicable corporate computer systems.  
    • Skilled in technical, business and conversation writing. Must be able to craft a memorandum, email and / or written correspondence that is appropriate for internal and external communications. This includes the ability to craft procedures, make accurate sketches, training manuals, reports and presentations to communicate within and outside the department. 
    • Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground distribution construction, equipment and materials; understanding of the National Electric Safety Code; ability to acquire knowledge of the cooperative’s equipment, facilities and RUS specifications; and ability to interpret line designs and evaluating cost-effective construction. 
    • English is the primary business language. Second language in Spanish is desirable.

    Inspections 

    • Perform work order field inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with construction specifications, workmanship standards, code requirements, engineering staking sheets, and construction labor units.  
    • Complete inspection field documentation including any pictures, electronic field collection forms, and measurements. Forward to appropriate line construction unit or vendor for correction; follow-up inspection to ensure violation has been properly corrected. 
    • Maintain inspection records and review monthly inspection reports; issue clean-up notices on work orders that do not meet requirements; follow-up to ensure corrective action was taken. 
    • Provide feedback as an inspection SME concerning violation and non-compliance trends. 
    • Conduct inspections of violations reported by customers or employees in a timely manner.  
    • Assist with special inspection projects and aerial drone inspections as requested. 

     

     

    Safety & Training 

    • Maintain a current knowledge of RUS, National Electric Safety Code, and Cooperative specifications and requirements as related to line construction and maintenance. 
    • Perform annual review and update of the Inspection Guide to ensure it includes up-to-date information and feedback relative to construction and engineering design principles. 
    • Provide training to line personnel on the use of the Inspection Guide 
    • Take after hour phone calls from contract construction crews as required
