Substance Abuse Center Director (Hosp. Op.) directs the clinical, managerial, and administrative aspects of substance abuse programs. Measures and evaluates the effectiveness and quality of drug/alcohol rehabilitation treatment procedures to achieve standards and objectives. Being a Substance Abuse Center Director (Hosp. Op.) partners with community agencies and programs to ensure continuity in the type and level of patient care. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local standards and requirements. Additionally, Substance Abuse Center Director (Hosp. Op.) requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Substance Abuse Center Director (Hosp.     Responsibilities

    Assessment

    • Assess community resources and readiness to address factors through collection, organization and analysis of data.
    • Assists to process collected information to assess the impact of prevention services
    • Provide initial and ongoing assessment of needs and resources through collection, organization and analysis of data.
    • Identify and fill any data gaps.

    Capacity

    • Identify resources ad build readiness to address substance use and misuse.
    • Represent the Agency in community committees.
    • Provide consultation with individuals and systems within the community to facilitate coordination, collaboration and cooperation between individuals, groups and communities.
    • Provide structured opportunities for program participants to integrate the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to meet specific program goals and objectives

    Planning

    • Participate in prioritizing issues and prevention goals, outcomes and action steps.
    • Provide initial and ongoing program development in response to the assessment and evaluation process.
    • Designs substance abuse prevention programs to meet the needs and interests of recipients.

    Implementation

    • Put into action goals and steps identified through delivery of evidence based interventions.
    • Use fidelity and adaption in all prevention programming.
    • Provide initial and ongoing program development in response to the assessment and evaluation process.
    • Effectively communicate verbal and written information with program recipients, students, parents, the public, other outside professionals and in-house staff.
    • Provide supervision, maintain discipline and ensure safety of program participants.
    • Plans, coordinates and executes alternative drug-free activities.
    • Presents accurate information on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
    • Provides education in identification of substance abuse and early intervention.
    • Provides information about substance abuse prevention programs to community / county individuals.

    Evaluation

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of prevention services and communicate results to stakeholders.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in either education or a human services related field.

    Experience:

    • Experience with education or related human service activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills in substance abuse prevention.

    License(s)/Certification(s):

    • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
    • Prevention Specialist Certification through the State of Iowa within the first 18 months of employment.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Knowledge of different prevention strategies including Strategic Prevention Framework.
    • Knowledge of human growth and development.
    • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of substance abuse including pharmacological factors.
    • Knowledge of the Code of Ethics for Prevention Specialists.
    • Ability to communicate through public speaking.
    • Ability to provide ongoing program development based on the assessment and evaluation process.
    • Ability to work a varied schedule to include some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
    • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodation where applicable.
