Substance Abuse Center Director (Hosp. Op.) directs the clinical, managerial, and administrative aspects of substance abuse programs.     • Position Summary
        Implements individualized services to meet the substance abuse and psychosocial counseling needs of patients and their families enabling patients to properly utilize medical care and health resources in achieving their optimal level of physical and emotional health. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out these responsibilities in support of patient centered care.

        • Practices ethically.
        • Communicates effectively in all areas of practice.
        • Facilitates collaboration between patient, family, and the interdisciplinary team in the provision of therapeutic practice.
        • Evaluates her or his own practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
        • Utilizes appropriate resources to plan and provide services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
        • Respects diversity and individualizes care to meet the unique needs of the patient.
        • Establishes partnerships with patients, families, support systems, and other providers, utilizing verbal and electronic communications to deliver health care services.
        • Completes and documents comprehensive substance abuse evaluation and psychosocial assessment of the patient and/or the situation.
        • Analyzes the assessment data to develop the patient’s problems list.
        • Identifies expected outcomes and treatment plan individualized to the patient or the situation.
        • Develops interventions, strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes
        • Implements the identified plan by providing psychosocial interventions, substance abuse counseling, education and supportive interventions in a way that builds a relationship between therapist and patient. Documents delivery of these services.
        • Facilitates the patient discharge planning process and documents relevant information.
        • Assists patient/family in determining/acquiring financial resources for payment of clinical services.
        • Evaluates and documents progress toward attainment of outcomes.
        • Maintains and improves the healthcare practice environment conducive to the provision of quality health care.
        • Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current professional therapy practice.
        • Maintains professional competence.
        • Continually reassesses competencies and identifies needs for additional knowledge, skills, personal growth, and integrative learning experiences
        • Integrates evidence and research findings into practice.
        • Contributes to and assists in development of quality professional substance abuse counseling practice.
        • Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.
        • Practices in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
        • Performs de-escalation and violence management interventions to manage physical/verbal aggression by patients.
    • Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
        Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
        • Certification as by the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification.
        • Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment
        • De-escalation training prior to performing patient care or within 90 days of hire.
        • Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
        • Combative Patient Response Team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
        Organizational Requirements:
        • De-escalation training prior to performing direct patient care or within 90 days of hire

        • All clinical night staff routinely working between the hours of 2300-0700 that work in Acute Rehab, Med Tele, Med Surg, Birthways, PEDS, NICU, and Oncology AND all clinical staff that work in Nursing Support Team, Behavioral Health, ED, ICCU, and House Managers will be required to take the combative patient response team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Individuals less than 18 years old are excluded.

        • Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.

        Preferred Qualifications:
        • One year of experience.

        Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
        • Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
        • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and its applications.
        • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
        • Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
        • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
        • Ability to manage one’s time effectively.
        • Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines
