    Job Summary 
    The Senior Substance Abuse Conselor is the primary counselor for the Federal Residential program. The position assists in monitoring the day-to-day activities of the program. This position ensures that operations run smoothly and in compliance with established procedures. Communicates regularly and sends monthly updates to Probation Officers.  Makes frequent court appearances. Provides individual, family, and group counseling in relation to the treatment and recovery of substance abuse. Prepares consumers for re-entry into the family and community. Prepares and maintains up-to-date electronic case notes, consumer records and reports. Refers consumers to community resources as appropriate. Utilizes evidence-based counseling techniques, including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy techniques. 

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
    • Working knowledge of client-centered approaches, strengths-based assessment, group dynamics, the disease concept of addiction, and relapse prevention. 
    • Ability to document services within specified time frames. 
    • Knowledge of ethical standards of the program and profession. Knowledge of addiction and recovery resources within the community. 
    • Ability to evaluate the client's progress toward program goals. Skill in interpersonal relations and crisis intervention.

    Education and Experience 
    • Requires a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Science or a related field.
    • Certified as a substance abuse counselor through NAADAC or AADAA, or licensed as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW, LMSW or ability to achieve certification/licensure within the first 24 months of employment. 
    • A minimum of two years clinical experience is required in the field of substance abuse or mental health or any equivalent experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
