Support Services Director - Healthcare oversees the health care facility's support services departments.     GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

    The individual in this position is responsible for the effective coordination, delivery, evaluation, and refinement of student support services throughout the school division. Ensures that all student support programs and services are in alignment with the outcomes for student success as identified in the school division’s strategic plan. Student support services programs include student enrollment, special placement, Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports (VTSS), home instruction, guidance services, attendance, truancy, student graduation and dropout prevention, and student disciplinary review.

     

     

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Essential Functions:

    • Develops strategies, objectives and measures for student support services that are aligned with the outcomes for student success as identified in the school division’s strategic plan. 
    • Ensures the seamless delivery of student support services for students through cooperative, collaborative and timely effort with school-based administrators, central office personnel, parents and external organizations and agencies. 
    • Recommends the development of and/or revisions to policies, regulations, procedures, and handbooks to ensure they are in compliance with federal and state regulations as they relate to student discipline, enrollment, and other areas and/or services for students. 
    • Recommends and initiates Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports (VTSS) that promote positive school culture and support all students in achieving social, emotional and academic success. 
    • Collaborates with other departments to provide training for school-based elementary and secondary guidance staff to ensure that effective practices are in place to meet student needs. 
    • Serves a leading role in the development and implementation of anti-bullying programs as well as other initiatives that create positive, safe, and supportive learning environments for students. 
    • Works closely with school-based administrators to ensure that student expectations are consistently enforced and appropriately addressed in all schools. 
    • Develops recommendations related to financial resources needed for student support services and oversees and manages approved budgets for all service areas. 
    • Develops and implements approved programs and/or services to meet the needs of students, parents and schools. 
    • Directs and monitors initiatives, projects and programs related to custody, dropouts, attendance, truancy, foster care, home instruction, religious exemptions, shared housing, resident and non-resident special placement, attendance waivers, foreign exchange students, reenrollment of incarcerated youth and placement of students transitioning from alternative schools/settings. 
    • Develops and provides appropriate, timely professional development and training for administrators, guidance staff, and other personnel relating to student support services and programs, including but not limited to, Code of Conduct, student legal matters, harassment and discrimination, Title IX, bullying, and student enrollment. 
    • Reviews, revises and approves production and distribution of materials for students, parents, administrators, School Board, and schools prepared by the student services office. 
    • Ensures communications with students, parents, school staff, administrators, School Board, and community groups/agencies are timely and effective. 
    • Serves as liaison between student services and the schools and external groups/agencies/courts/law enforcement. 
    • Provides oversight and serves as a participating member on the Disciplinary Review Committee (DRC). 
    • Documents student issues and provides assistance to building-level administrators and schools. 
    • Responds to and handles all parent complaints relating to school disciplinary referrals. 
    • Serves as the Superintendent’s Designee for matters related to student discipline. 
    • Provides oversight for various committees and other student activities.


    Additional Duties:

    • Performs other related work as required.



    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

    • Postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12. 
    • Three (3) years successful experience as a public-school administrator and experience working with alternative student populations. 
    • Or an equivalent level of education and experience.



    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
    • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
    • Skill in the use of computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
    • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other District employees and the general public.  
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.     • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
    • Pushing or Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
    • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
    • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand. 
    • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
    • Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
    • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
