POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Director, Student Support Services
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent, Student Services
SALARY: Certificated Management Salary Schedule
POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Student Services, the Director, Student Support Services, is responsible for services that enhance, support, reflect, secure, and reinforce the academic and social-emotional programs for students in the District.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience:
a. An example of education and/or training which would provide an individual with the knowledge and skills necessary for competent job performance, including an advanced degree in education with training or emphasis in the areas of Pupil Services and
Child Welfare and Attendance.
b. Minimum of three (3) years of broad education program development and management experience.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Annual Notice of Rights and Responsibilities: Understands the fundamentals of state and local law and the application of fundamental rights of students, staff, parents, and guardians as related to the Annual Notice of Rights and Responsibilities.
Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism: Develops and implements short and long-range plans to enhance existing programs and introduce new programs in alignment with the LCAP, strategic plan, goals, objectives, and policies of the Board of Education and District. Works with the School Attendance Review Board and the Child Welfare and Attendance Officers and their counterparts to implement needed and required services.
BreakThrough Student Assistant Program: Oversees the counseling program that provides direct services to students and families, as well as connects to community and county resources and supports. Presents to parents/guardians on a variety of topics to enhance academic and social-emotional success for students.
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE): Identifies students as gifted and/or talented using appropriate screening measures that promote access by all students, provides staff development in meeting the unique needs of gifted learners, provides meaningful extension and enrichment activities for students with the support of the GATE Teacher on Special Assignment.
McKinney-Vento/Foster Youth: Plans, develops, implements, and monitors services for foster youth and those identified as McKinney-Vento. With the support of the Coordinator, Student Support Services, works cooperatively and effectively with school site staff and community groups, has intimate knowledge of rights and resources afforded to students.
Nursing and Health Services: Works with Human Resources to recruit, hire and train Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and health clerks, and oversees health-related procedures including but not limited to immunization compliance, communicable disease protocols, and individual health plans.
Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program: Oversees the prevention program, monitors student achievement, program budgets, and guides the implementation of the TUPE curriculum for grades 6-12.
Other Duties:
Develops and implements short and long-range plans to enhance existing programs and introduce new programs in alignment with the LCAP, strategic plan, goals, objectives, and policies of the Board of Education and District.
Monitors fund balances of assigned programs and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate and expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
Performs personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
Possibility of supporting district level investigations including Title IX, uniform complaints and student discipline/expulsion.
