    Ensures coordination and continuity of patient care for heart/lung/heart-lung transplant patients in order to maintain organized and efficient care and provide support to staff and other health care professionals. Responsible for identifying the patient's alterations in health, assessing the patient's response to treatment protocols, communicating appropriate data to physician staff, implementing nursing interventions based upon established treatment protocols and anticipating potential outcomes for patients at risk for complications. Must demonstrate ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and organ(s) transplanted and provide care according to protocols and within practice of nursing.

    This position is a temporary position.

    The designated transplant research APRN at the University of Florida Heart Transplant Program will be working on the NIH-funded research project with other APRNs, but will assume primary responsibility of conducting the research with the PI and research team. The responsibilities will include identification of potential patients, consenting (in-person or electronically), interacting with patients about the study and assisting patients with the onboarding process. For each participant, a transplant coordinator on the transplant team will enter prescribed medications and times in which they are scheduled to take the medications. They will also ensure the patient's medication regime is updated as per any changes in their clinical care. The APRN will also communicate with the study staff at other sites to ensure smooth enrollment and onboarding and provide education when necessary. The APRN will also monitor video submissions for all patients at all sites and follow the escalation protocol per any issues. In the process of video review, APRNs will communicate with the patient, provide personalized encouragement messages and will also alert the individual site PI/study staff regarding any issues. The APRN will participate in regular team meetings to update study progress. The APRN will help in data collection and identify and troubleshoot any other logistical issues with the PI and Co-PI.

    Job Opening Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    • This position is a temporary position.
    • A minimum of a master's degree in advanced nursing practice is required.
    • Minimum of four years' experience in nursing with at least two years of medical/surgical experience with cardiothoracic patient population. Critical care or transplantation experience preferred.
    • Eligible for DEA registration.
    • Must be knowledgeable in transplant immunology, technical aspects of surgery, interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory data and clinical management of patients.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration:

    • Current and clear license as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Florida.
    • Current BLS certification.



    Shift hours: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday
