Surgeon - Heart Transplant examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with end-stage cardiac disease. Surgically replaces a diseased or damaged heart with a healthy heart. Being a Surgeon - Heart Transplant reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving the desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Heart Transplant may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. The Heart Institute at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is seeking a pediatric and congenital heart surgeon to join the team in Miami, Florida. The ideal candidate will be board certified in Thoracic and Congenital Cardiac Surgery. A track record of technical excellence and strong interpersonal skills are desired. Candidates with several years of independent operative experience are preferred in order to divide cases between two surgeons. Annual surgical volume is approximately 350 cases. The Heart Institute at Nicklaus is the largest pediatric cardiac center in South Florida.

Job Summary
The position is primarily a clinical position related to the diagnosis, treatment and clinical management of pediatric patients in a multidisciplinary environment that includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, clinical scientists and social workers. The position offers exposure to a mix of general and high acuity pediatric patients. The position also includes teaching and supervision of medical residents and provides opportunities to participate in research and publishing.
