Surgeon - Heart Transplant examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with end-stage cardiac disease. Surgically replaces a diseased or damaged heart with a healthy heart. Being a Surgeon - Heart Transplant reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving the desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Heart Transplant may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, the Clinical Nurse III (CNIII) in OR is an RN with advanced skills who is an expert in surgical nursing care and is also capable of directing/coaching other OR staff in the daily operations of the unit. The CNIII facilitates the smooth operation of the nursing unit, acts as a mentor, preceptor, and resource for the Clinical Nurse I and II, as well as other staff members and provides advanced consultation to other units and hospital staff regarding complex surgical patient care problems.
This position is represented by SEIU, Local 121RN, and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
