Surgeon - Neurology examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats disorders of the brain, spine, spinal cord, and nerves. Operates on the brain in order to relieve pressure in an intracranial hemorrhage, remove a foreign body such as a tumor, treat a wound, or relieve pain. Being a Surgeon - Neurology operates on the spine in order to free entrapped nerves, correct deformity, or restore spinal stability. Reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Additionally, Surgeon - Neurology determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. May provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. VCA Care Specialty and Emergency Animal Hospital is seeking a board certified or residency trained Surgeon to join our 24-hour emergency and specialty practice in beautiful Downtown Santa Barbara, California.

Inside our historical building (once home to a speakeasy!) is a 6,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility featuring 2 surgical suites, ultrasound, a tower for laparoscopy/arthroscopy and endoscopy, and three oxygen cages. Additionally, we have a large shared doctor's office that promotes team work amongst peers, but also allows for quiet time to perform administrative work. Our veterinary team includes a board certified Internist, and Criticalist, along with 4 Emergency doctors and dedicated, surgery trained RVTs.

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The annual salary range for this position is $120,000 to $300,000. This position may also be eligible for other variable pay programs.
