Job Summary:

PALM HARBOR, FLORIDA

The Orthopedic Medical Assistant / Scribe, works under the supervision of the Orthopedic Surgeon to facilitate patient flow, ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient, draws up medications for injections, casting and applying splints. Excellent opportunity for college students looking for a career in the medical field to gain experience and knowledge in the field of medicine. Part time hours: Tuesday & Wednesday 8 hour days and Friday morning 1/2 day. Full time hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5pm

Responsibilities and Duties

Main Job Functions

• Accompanies physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present.
• Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
• Transcribes patient orders radiology tests, medications, etc.
• Documents any procedures performed by the physician.
• Prepares and assists with injections.
• Performs casting, staple and suture removal.
• Checks for mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and checks to correct the information in order to reduce errors.
• Ensures that all clinical data, test results and radiology interpretation by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record.
• Ability to accurately record information.
• Strong Speller
• Legible Handwriting a must.
• Ensures clinic area is always stocked and clean.
• Ability to project a professional image.

Qualifications and Skills should include

• Experience in the medical field and/or College program/degree preparing for career in the medical field
• Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
• Organizational skills
• Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families
