Surgeon - Orthopedic examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats musculoskeletal diseases and injuries. Performs surgical procedures to immobilize fractures by using corrective devices such as braces, pins, casts, and splints. Being a Surgeon - Orthopedic reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Orthopedic may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to a medical director. Requires a license to practice. The Orthopedic Technologist is a paramedically trained member of the orthopedic team who works with all health care professionals in delivering excellent patient care and performing all appropriate responsibilities in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based on the understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship with one another. Has the ability to apply, adjust, and remove all common orthopedic devices, using a manual or standard practice as a guide. Knowledge of theory and application of skin or skeletal traction and knowledge of the proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing change, removal of sutures or staples and in setting up surgical fields.
