Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive jobs in Galveston, TX
Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients that have abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease. Performs surgery to improve functions and to approximate a normal appearance. Being a Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The purpose of this position is to provide faculty support to meet the teaching, research, and patient care needs of the Department of Surgery and assist in fulfilling UTMB’s threefold mission. The person in this position will be responsible for providing direct patient care including consultative services, outpatient and inpatient services, and perioperative care. The faculty member will participate in all teaching activities of the division including conferences and lectures, bedside rounds, and house staff supervision. Students will include medical students, house staff, nursing students, and allied health students. This individual will also be responsible for advancing clinical knowledge through his/her academic and scholarly efforts. In addition, the person in this position will have administrative responsibilities including advising and evaluating residents and students, providing medical direction for Hospital services, and participating in committee memberships at the departmental and Health System level. The person in this position will be assigned a percentage of their time to Shriners Galveston Hospital.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should be a graduate of an approved medical school, have completed an approved residency training program, be Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Plastic Surgery, and have a Texas Medical license without restrictions.
