Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients that have abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease. Performs surgery to improve functions and to approximate a normal appearance. Being a Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Discusses cosmetic consultations and procedures with prospective patients over the phone, via email and in person
Ability to think quickly and manage triage calls
Meet with patient at time of consultation to discuss surgery, consultation with surgeon, answer questions, discuss concerns, develop quote for procedures, and discuss fees and financial policies with patient.
Manage insurance and reconstructive cases through the process.
Coordinate financing for patient, as necessary
Accompanies the surgeon while he/she is examining cosmetic patients, if a chaperone is needed
Performs breast implant sizing and ordering
Schedules all surgeries—Coordinates to ensure all pre-surgical processes are ready for surgery, and all consents are signed
Collects surgical scheduling deposits and other payments; ensures that all cosmetic and fee balances are paid prior to surgery
Conducts regular follow-up protocols for each lead & patient
Maintains the database of patients who have had surgery/procedure and who haven’t, and targets specific follow-up procedures to encourage booking
Back up other primary nurses as needed in an assistant role.
Reviews and responds to all email, patient requests, and phone calls regularly throughout workday; returns all phone calls by end of workday.
Ensures all information about cosmetic patients is entered into tracking or computer system accurately
Pro-actively monitors surgeon’s schedule
Soliciting patient testimonials, reviews and before / after photos consent
Post-surgical follow up, send thank you cards and or gifts
Referral coordination, relationship management of referring physician and other business offices.
