Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients that have abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease. Performs surgery to improve functions and to approximate a normal appearance. Being a Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Virtua Medical Group is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Virtua Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team in Marlton, NJ as a part-time provider. This position will be required to work three days a week (days will vary according to need) as first-assist in the operating room in both reconstructive (90%) and cosmetic cases (10%). The Physician Assistant will hold their own post-operative clinic weekly and would be required to be sufficient in diagnosing and treating patients for general post-operative care, surgical infections, and wound care. There will be an option to learn cosmetic injectables in this position. Overnight and weekend call are not required, but the Physician Assistant will be required to answer & triage the clinical phone calls during normal working hours. The Physician Assistant will also do inpatient rounding.
Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, work well in a team setting, and will have an interest in working inpatient and outpatient with a surgical team. Experience in a surgical specialty, specifically plastic and reconstructive surgery, is highly preferred.
