Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients that have abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease. Performs surgery to improve functions and to approximate a normal appearance. Being a Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Opening and closing the office
- Answering and fielding incoming phone calls
- Checking patients in & out on clinic days
- Scheduling/rescheduling patients
- Preparing patient charts for the next clinic day
- Entering new patients into the software system
- Rooming patients
- Data entry and document scanning
- Maintaining inventory of medical & various office supplies on a weekly basis
- Assisting in keeping the office organized
- Ensuring that treatment rooms are stocked
- Posting & collecting payments
- Verifying insurance benefits
- Obtaining insurance authorizations
- Various clerical tasks such as filing, faxing, etc.
Required skills include:
- Previous experience working in a healthcare environment (2 years )
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Friendly and polished patient interaction
- A hard-working and positive attitude
- Ability to multi-task and work proactively
- Sensitivity and discretion with relation to patient matters (HIPAA compliant)
Preferred skills include:
- At least 2 years’ experience working in a private medical practice
- Experience with electronic health record and online scheduling
