Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients that have abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors, or disease. Performs surgery to improve functions and to approximate a normal appearance. Being a Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Plastic Reconstructive may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice.     We are seeking a RN First Assist for our state of the art facility in Tallahassee, Florida.

    Our three board certified physicians and medical staff continually strive to achieve the delicate balance of blending science and art, customizing procedures to meet the personal needs and desires of each of our patients. We specialize in cosmetic, reconstructive surgery as well as our full complement of non-surgical treatments, including treatment for spider veins, premature aging of the skin and cosmetic injectables.

    RN First Assist

    Mission Statement:

    To provide high quality care to the patients of Tallahassee Plastic Surgery Clinic, in that, all patients are treated with respect and compassion. To maintain the efficiency level required by the practice to assure that the physicians have maximum licensure, certification, and up-to-date care for all patients. To enhance practice growth by appropriate public relations efforts and activities.

    Responsible to:

    The RN First Assist is directly responsible to the physician in all clinical matters, and is responsible to the Practice Administrator in all matters other than clinical.

    Educational Requirements:

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITES:

    Knowledgeable in recognition and treatment of cardiopulmonary and anaphylactic emergencies.

    Knowledgeable in general medicine as required providing competent care to surgical patients.

    Familiar with equipment and procedures utilized in treatment of patients and in emergency situations.

    Knowledgeable of Florida Statutes in regards to RNFA practice.

    Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses and office staff to ensure continuity of patient care.

    Knowledge, ability, and skill to suture and manage wounds according to the standards outlined by the physicians.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    RNFA Certification

    ACLS and BLS Certification

    CME hours as determined by state license and RNFA certification requirements.

    Experience determined on an individual basis

    General Requirements: Well-groomed appearance, pleasant personality, courteous and compassionate.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Summary:

    • Initial evaluation of all new patients in the practice.
    • Assist with pre-operative patient evaluations (H&Ps) and orders.
    • Assisting the physicians in surgery both in office and in off-site facilities.
    • Triage of clinical telephone calls as appropriate.
    • Documentation of patient care with maintenance of clear, concise, and accurate medical records.
    • Conducting rounds on physicians’ patients as delegated.
    • Assisting nursing staff when called upon to do so. Work with nursing staff to assure continuity of patient care and quality of patient care.
    • Maintenance of medical knowledge and standards of care as required for ACLS and BLS certification.
    • Maintenance of medical knowledge and standards of care as required by state license and RNFA certification.
    • Assist physician with patients in the office, including procedures on Mohs closure patients.
    • Rounds and consults for physician as directed.
    • Takes calls at physician’s direction.
    • First assist on all cosmetic cases as directed.
    • Maintain a professional presence and demeanor that reflects well on the practice and physician and the profession as a whole.
    • Maintain flexible hours and a work schedule to accommodate the needs of the physician.
    • Communicate well with other office staff to promote good patient care and a healthy work environment.
    • Maintain skills and medical/surgical knowledge base to stay up to date with current medical/surgical advances.
    • Maintain all requirement for state licensure
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Typical Physical Demands:

    Long term standing, possible heavy lifting/shifting of patients, repetitive computer use, use of needles, sharps, scalpels.

    Typical Working Conditions:

    Normal office and operating room environment, may involve evening and weekend work.
