Surgeon - Trauma examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats critically injured patients. Performs emergency procedures including endotracheal tube intubation, tube thoracostomy, pericardiocentesis, ultrosonographic evaluation, and peritoneal lavage. Being a Surgeon - Trauma reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Trauma may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Job Summary
Maintains the Trauma Registry system to provide accurate data and statistics in support of trauma program operations, trauma performance improvement, and patient safety program as a requirement of maintaining American College of Surgeons' Trauma Center Verification. Data abstraction from electronic medical record for injured patients into trauma registry software. Researches trauma through statistical measures and performance improvement. Maintains a high degree of data entry accuracy as well as strong organization skills. Knowledgeable of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and medical records procedures.
Qualifications
Associate degree or certification in health care related field desired.
Prior experience with computerized information systems preferred. Prior experience with Trauma Registry software preferred. Individual with equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) and American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar course or equivalent within first year of hire. Maintain throughout employment.
