Surgical Technologist assists medical team with preparations for surgical procedures and during the procedure. Prepares equipment, instruments, supplies, operating room, and patients and ensure sterile field. Being a Surgical Technologist coordinates preparation or disposal of specimens and delivery to laboratory according to procedures. Maintains inventory of sterile supplies. Additionally, Surgical Technologist may assist in patient transport. Requires completion of surgical technologist training course. Requires a high school diploma. Requires CPR certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Surgical Technologist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. DescriptionEssential Functions
- Provide safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.
- Provide patient care/function in a primary scrub position.
- Assist with technical responsibilities in assigned operative procedures.
- Assure appropriate instruments/supplies are present and in proper working condition.
- Provide labeled medications with correct doses on the sterile field.
- Perform other duties which support the operative team, includes following patient care hand off protocol.
- Actively participate in the quality improvement process.
- Involved in learning and self-improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
