Being a Switchboard Operator monitors the phone system's efficiency and performs routine troubleshooting. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Switchboard Operator typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Switchboard Operator may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Maintains a consistently high public relations demeanor with staff, visitors and general public.This is a per diem position, working on an "as needed" basis at the reception station at the Nathaniel Witherell Skilled Nursing Facility, 70 Parsonage Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.High School graduate plus one year related clerical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of VOIP switchboard with multiple trunk lines or ability to learn.Skilled in typing and computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet and data input functions.Ability to operate routine office equipment including paging system.Ability to maintain a consistently high public relations demeanor with staff, visitors and general public.Ability to work independently within defined work parameters in an organized and timely manner.Ability to interpret and respond to the fire panel/alarm as per facility policy.ESSENTIAL FEATURES:Answers in-coming calls and transfers to appropriate parties with consistent accuracy; places local and long distance outgoing calls; makes inter-office connections, pages via telephone system and other paging equipment.Provides general and facility-specific information to the public, referring questions to the proper facility and Town departments. Takes, records and transmits messages with accuracy, maintaining confidentiality of information received.Serves as a point-person for the facility, greeting visitors, employees, and residents and responding to a variety of inquiries and/or making appropriate referrals to other departmental personnel.Maintains a variety of logs and/or directories; maintains and updates routine records, files and other data. Responsible for filing functions as assigned.Performs a wide variety of keyboarding functions, including word processing, data input and/or spreadsheet applications.In certain facilities, serves as fire alarm panel respondent by interpreting audible and visual codes, announcing fire location via the intercom system and generates verifying phone calls in accordance with facility policy.May receive, sort and distribute facility mail; performs related duties as required.Performs other job related duties as assigned.All positions may be subject to an interview process.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position. Candidates for employment at Nathaniel Witherell Skilled Nursing Facility are required to demonstrate their vaccination status against COVID 19, or present a valid request for Medical or Religious exemption to the Human Resources Department.
The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations all full and part time positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates.
