The PR Clinic Pre-Operative/Recovery RN Job Description

This position is responsible for providing planned, skilled nursing care for patients in the preoperative and postoperative period of the perioperative process. The Practice is seeking a post anesthesia recovery nurse to carefully monitor the condition of patients who are waking up from post-operative anesthesia. You will be monitoring levels of consciousness, measuring vital signs, and treating post-operative side effects of anesthesia medication such as pain or nausea. You will also be involved in the pre-operative prep of the patient.

Responsibilities for this position:

• Pre-Operative:
• Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting.
• Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery.
• Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure.
• Initiate IVs and ensure patients are informed about procedure.
• Post-Operative:
• Monitor post-operative patients’ levels of consciousness during recovery from anesthesia.
• Frequently check on post-operative patients.
• Measure and record patients’ vital signs.
• Closely observe patients for signs of side effects of anesthesia medication.
• Perform post-operative tasks, such as changing bandages and giving patients medications as needed or directed by physicians.
• Treating pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms of anesthesia.
• Update charts, patient files, and medical records.
• Provide comfort and reassurance to distressed post-operative patients and concerned family members.
• Educating patients and their family members on post-surgery care, as well as answering questions.
• Collaborates with the surgical team on post-operative patient care and facilitating timely specialized interventions.
• Determine whether patients are ready to leave the facility or if they need more specialized care or longer observation.

Recovery Nurse Requirements:

• Associates or Bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN).
• Registered Nurse (RN) certification in Alabama.
• 2 years of experience as a nurse in a post-anesthesia care unit required.
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
• Advanced knowledge of best practices in patient care.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
