Systems Consultant/Engineering Director oversees the design of enablement plans and configuration specifications and installation operations to implement integrated hardware and software systems and products purchased by customers. Develops standard processes and methodologies to prototype and test proposed solutions for feasibility, reliability, and quality. Being an Systems Consultant/Engineering Director directs the development of program and system specifications to meet customers' technical requirements and guide the enablement, configuration, or coding of products and solutions. Ensures the delivery of technical information, documentation, requirements, and cost estimates to sales teams to use in proposals, quotes, and statements of work meet sales cycle and project timeline requirements.     Position Overview
    The Executive Director of Information Systems, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will provide leadership to deliver high quality, cost effective, safe patient-centered care by working with physicians and staff across the Health System. He/She will orchestrate, implement and monitor all phases of administration, management, strategy, direction, and finances of Singing River Health System (SRHS) information technology infrastructures, applications, support systems, and disaster recovery readiness. He/She will participate in overall strategic direction, business strategy, technology strategy and planning, and bring current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems as related to the organization’s competitive position.

    The Executive Director of Information Systems holds responsibility for developing long term information technology/information management/knowledge management (IT/IM/KM) strategies in order for SRHS to meet organizational objectives of an innovative patient care environment. He/She provides guidance, options and recommendations to the SRHS Administrative Leadership Team on a routine basis; and implements upgrades, training and education to ensure best practice standards in current and emerging technologies across SRHS. The Executive Director of Information Systems must fully understand and appreciate the relationships between providing clinical care and conducting the business of the organization; how best to apply IT/IM/KM to support those relationships. Also essential, is an ability to analyze alternative paths to specific outcomes, an ability to investigate complaints and concerns, foster staff versatility and encourage independent decision making.

    The Executive Director of Information Systems must be a model of leadership to all SRHS employees and must be committed to dealing with issues in a professional, impartial manner so that the true causes of conflict may be determined, workable solutions proposed, and fair and decisive action taken. This individual must be forthcoming, honest and cooperative in departmental matters involving self or others, and must promote the SRHS mission of "world class healthcare and wellness" and understands that the SRHS Corporate Compliance Program places the burden of proof on the provider to show that there was no intent to commit fraud.


    Education
    Position requires a graduate degree in Information Management, Health Informatics, Business, Healthcare Administration or other related fields. Evidence of continuing education preferred.

    Certification
    Prefer board certification from nationally accredited healthcare and/or information technology/management organization.

    Experience
    A background of progressive healthcare leadership, with a minimum of eight (8) years information technology/information management leadership experience preferably in large, multi-site organizations. Demonstrated business acumen and relevant experience and credibility in all functional areas including Healthcare Provider business domain, IT strategy and planning, IT project management methodologies, IT Infrastructure management, IT operations management, vendor management, and relationship management. Record of managerial experience in leading the information technology function of a healthcare organization through a period of significant change; clear evidence of successfully building and/or rebuilding organizations and systems required. Successful implementation of a clinical information system/electronic medical record is required.

    Physical Demands
    Work involves moderate physical activity: frequently moving about the office, building, or other facilities within the SRHS service area; frequently positioning self to access files, computers, equipment, and other objects; performing repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers in using the keyboard and other office equipment; and regularly exerting up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision.

    Mental Demands
    Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of financial responsibilities, staff, and/or patients. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels associated in dealing with employee issues and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, staff, managers, physicians, and other healthcare associates.

    Special Demands
    Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, understand and set goals. Must possess highly developed organizational, planning and management writing skills, excellent oral communication skills, and the ability to create/maintain a collaborative work environment. Must have a valid driver license as job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area – with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Frequent travel within a radius of 50 miles, with occasional travel beyond, is required. Proficient knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
