Systems Consultant/Engineering Manager oversees the design of enablement plans and configuration specifications and installation operations to implement integrated hardware and software systems and products purchased by customers. Develops standard processes and methodologies to prototype and test proposed solutions for feasibility, reliability, and quality.     Job Summary

    The HR Systems Manager provides leadership to develop, maintain, optimize and/or provide technical support for system-wide, campus and custom applications, as well as serve as the primary technical resource for technology managed by the HR Applications and Information Services (HRAIS) unit.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Serve as main HRAIS technical resource, including coding/script writing and basic application development and maintenance, on a variety of HR applications and systems, including Banner, Salary Planner, HRFE, among others, as well as internally developed custom applications. Participate in enterprise system testing, configuration and maintenance as main technical resource for HR and payroll applications. Collaborate effectively with other IHR teams to solve complex problems spanning their respective areas through the use of technology, including an ability to create simple applications and programs. Proactively anticipate the technical needs of IHR and college/departments. Maintain modern knowledge of technical practices, including programing and application development.
    • Responsible for the development of queries and reports for data related to campus-wide Human Resources (HR) operations, in order to support timely decision making and required reporting, including requests for compensation data, appointments, personnel bio demographic data, and other HR data as needed. Create complex data sets and analyze the data in a written format that will be shared with campus units including by IHR, the Provost Budget Office and/or colleges/units. Assist with web applications such as Business Intelligence/EDDIE used for data capture, tracking, and reporting and maintain current knowledge of data structure and tables for relevant applications, including Banner. Responsible for maintaining documentation associated with report development including report processes, report schedules, report requirements, and queries/scripts used to pull data. Collaborate on complex data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing data to turn information into insights using multiple platforms.

    Specialty Factors

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Two (2) years of work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. (College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years)
    • Experience with supporting enterprise-scale applications or equivalent.
    • Experience with Oracle, SQL, and or comparable systems.
    • Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software or systems such as Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources, or Student Administration.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 5 years of experience with HR applications, databases and systems at the University of Illinois.
    • Fluency in multiple programming languages.
    • Knowledge of Banner and EDW tables and data structures.
    • Experience identifying and addressing customer needs, excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to understand advanced technical concepts.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team of professionals in the timely completion of tasks.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and to work with shifting priorities and schedules.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong customer relationship skills.

    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after August 21, 2023. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000/year. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site as needed.
