Systems Engineering Manager manages daily operations in the department responsible for the planning and engineering of an organization's systems infrastructure. Ensures that hardware and/or software are designed and installed in a manner that meets the needs of the organization. Being a Systems Engineering Manager monitors systems performance and provides recommendations as required. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Systems Engineering Manager typically reports to a head of unit/department. The Systems Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Systems Engineering Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required. What you'll do
As the Engineering Manager, Truck Body for Utilimaster (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our facility in Bristol, IN, you will be a critical member of our management team who will be accountable for developing and managing the execution of Truck Body-related engineering workflows and owning its success from cradle to grave.
You will also be responsible for guiding and directing a team of highly skilled engineers and associates, some as direct reports and others indirectly in conjunction with their functional managers, who are driven to deliver the most well-designed and reliable fleet vehicles and upfit solutions in the industry.
A significant portion of your time will be spent defining Truck Body product line requirements, goals, scope, tasks, and timelines, and creating design solutions that utilize commonality, Lean and 6 Sigma techniques and methodologies to reduce proliferation.
You will also:- Manage and provide input into the company's strategic direction regarding the Truck Body product line
- Deliver engineering solutions and revisions to other teams within The Shyft Group
- Develop and present a gap analysis demonstrating how we transform the Truck
- Ensure delivery of needs identified by its product roadmap
- Partner with management to establish priorities, timelines, and measurable results
- Provide inspirational leadership and change management
- Create a more robust systems engineering roadmap within the department
- Organize, direct, and assign projects to engineers and designers
- Provide structured training and development opportunities for the systems engineering team
- Guide the development of robust engineering design standards to improve our competitive advantage
- Simplify manufacturing processes and standardize parts inventories and customer-focused product solutions
- Guide departmental projects in the areas of product cost reduction and complexity
- Provide oversight for conducting design reviews and facilitating communications cross-functionally
- Provides technical support to colleagues in Customer Service, Warranty, and Quality
- Represent Utilimaster Engineering during customer site visits and customer pilot reviews
- Support the organizational alignment of the Truck Body product line roadmap to drive design solutions that exceed customer expectations for quality, cost, performance, and timing
- Establish a team mindset of exceptional responsiveness, quality, and service
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and requirements, the Utilimaster lean checklist, and engineering documentation standards
- Enforce legal, financial, and ethical standards within the engineering department when necessary

What you need to be successful
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related degree
• Seven or more (7 ) years of new product development experience
• Five or more (5 ) years of engineering project management experience
• Strong familiarity working within a design environment
• Proficient in SOLIDWORKS
• Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), FMEA and FEA
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Two or more (2 ) years of experience managing or supervising an engineering staff of 4 or more people
