Job Summary:

Experienced multi-skilled tradesperson familiar with one or more of the following areas: maintenance of commercial and residential refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, and building automation systems. Ability to troubleshoot equipment maintenance problems and perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment. Ability to work well with the systems team to help provide a safe and well-maintained environment for the students, visitors, faculty, and staff of Goshen College. This position is part of a rotation that shares after-hours on-call time with other members of the Systems Department.

Essential Functions:

This position will work closely with and share responsibilities with others in the Systems Department team to do the following:

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of air conditioning equipment, hydronic pumps and distribution systems, and refrigeration equipment on campus.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of heating, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment on campus.
• Repair, adjust, maintain, or replace mechanical equipment such as pumps, motor bearings and belts, blower assemblies, and exhaust fan filters.
• Assist in the maintenance of steam, condensate, and hydronic distribution systems.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable codes.
• Perform routine replacement of specialty light bulbs, ballasts, switches and other basic electrical devices.
• Assist as needed in the completion of general and routine maintenance tasks when additional support is needed from the general maintenance group. This could include such tasks as cleaning out sewage and storm water lines or maintenance of outdoor lighting.
• Develop and maintain working knowledge of the campus building automation system.
• Complete assigned work orders regarding repair of lights, plumbing, and electrical.
• Join after-hours on-call rotation with other members of the Systems Department.

Education and/or Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associates Degree in HVAC, or other technical schooling preferred.
• Certification in Refrigeration, Electrical License, or Plumbing License is desirable.
• Four to six years of experience in the operation and maintenance of plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and HVAC systems is preferred.

Qualifications:

• Able to work safely around hazardous situations, work with hazardous chemicals, electricity, and around moving parts.
• Able to troubleshoot and repair a variety of equipment using basic diagnostic tools.
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills. English language competency.
• Computer literacy is useful and desirable.
• Possession of a cell phone for receiving computer generated alarm texts

Physical Demands:

• Able to occasionally lift up to 80 pounds.
• Must be in good health and be able to climb, grasp, pull, lift and crouch.
• Must have high visual acuity.

Work Environment/Environmental Condition:

• Able to work in hot and cold environments.
• Able to climb ladders, work on roofs and work in tight mechanical spaces
• Occasionally required to work in confined spaces using appropriate safety procedures.
