Position Summary
Under supervision of Physical Therapist, performs treatments and provides exercise instruction and demonstration for patients.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and complex procedures.
Carries out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as determined by evaluation performed by Physical Therapist.
Instructs patients on segments of the program, including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.
Records and reports on patient’s progress for review by other members of the rehabilitation team. Completes charting requirements in a timely manner.
Consults with other members of rehabilitation team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of individual and to coordinate Physical Therapy with other therapeutic activities.
Obtains and returns required equipment.
Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
Considers specific patient variables such as motivation, stamina, etc. in planning treatment programs.
Provides direct physical therapy to patients on a daily basis for Outpatient Clinic, Swing-bed Unit, Inpatients, and Home Health.
Adapts conventional physical therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises.
Administers physical therapy care programs or portions of programs, as directed by a registered physical therapist.
Maintains open communication with Physical Therapist regarding patients’ performance and progress.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.
Observes patients, checks equipment, and makes changes as necessary during patient rounds.
Assesses patients’ progress and adjusts program as appropriate.
Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance and work hours.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
