To perform semi-skilled work in servicing automotive, buses, heavy construction and other
equipment; and to provide technical support to an assigned division.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey level in the equipment service worker series. Positions assigned to this
class are expected to perform the full range of equipment servicing work in the maintenance
of gas and diesel powered equipment. All positions assigned to this class require the ability
to work independently exercising judgment and initiative. Equipment Service Workers may
also expect to assist in the supervision and training of less experienced personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Fuel, grease and lubricate automobiles, trucks and heavy automotive equipment;
inspect and replenish fluid and fuel levels; service batteries and other parts.
Repair and replace vehicle tires; install and service various mechanical parts
including batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple related parts.
Service automotive equipment with gasoline and oil; keep records of amounts used,
assist in general maintenance and cleanliness of automotive shop area.
Perform service calls; make temporary repairs; collect and deliver vehicles requiring
external mechanical services; road test vehicles to ensure proper operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean and wash motorized equipment; sweep and vacuum car interiors.
Participate in a variety of activities involving travel between various city facilities and
to other related external business and government agencies which may include field
repairs and collection and delivery of city vehicles.
Other Important Responsibilities and Duties:
Wash windows, tighten body bolts, sweep, wash and otherwise keep shop and
equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
May perform comprehensive safety inspections on vehicles and equipment; assist with
routine repair work and report safety and other priority repair work to supervisor.
Maintain various records pertaining to equipment, parts and materials.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Lubricating systems and oils, greases and attachments used in lubricating automotive
and related equipment.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required
knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities
would be:
Experience;
One year of increasingly responsible experience performing automotive
servicing work is desirable.
Training;
Completion of formal or informal education which provides the ability to read
and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver’s license.
Possession of an appropriate Texas Class A or B Commercial
Driver's License (CDL).
