    Position Summary:

    Trupanion is seeking a Director, People & Talent to join our skilled and passionate People Operations team! In this role, you will partner with the business and your People Operations teams to support a growing team of global team members throughout their journey at Trupanion. We are looking for a thoughtful leader who can successfully facilitate areas around team member performance, engagement, and career development initiatives through trusted relationships, coaching, and creative problem-solving.

    The main focus area of this role is to help leaders and team members through consulting; navigate sticky situations with ease and enable others to help themselves. You will ensure concerns are handled in a manner consistent with our mission and values. You will thoughtfully balance the unique needs of individuals with the needs of the business, facilitating conflict resolution and influencing optimal outcomes.

    This role will also focus on initiatives related to Organizational Effectiveness, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management,  DEI and Change Management. Trupanion is continually growing and innovating, so you should be comfortable (and thrive!) in a dynamic environment, with a natural ability to drive influence and gain rapport with all leaders and team members. We are building many programs and processes from scratch and looking for team members skilled in doing just that.

    This position is only open to candidates in the Seattle area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 4 days a week.

    What you will focus on:

    Advising & Problem Solving - Using strong business insight and HR expertise to advise on a variety of team member needs (including onboarding, engagement and retention, performance management, HR policy and practices, and employee relations).

    Navigating Change – Role modeling the ability to be nimble and adapt to new situations with willingness and optimism. Advising leaders in building effective communication and organizational development as teams grow and evolve.

    Team Culture – Actively cultivating an inclusive and caring Trupanion team member experience where all team members feel fulfilled and supported. Developing and coaching to policies and programs that support a balanced, healthy workplace culture.

    Leader & Team Member Effectiveness – Building relationships to deeply understand the role and needs of people leaders and managers. Recommending and implementing tools and resources that empower all team members and set them up for success.

    Business Partner Consultancy - You are a valued coach and advisor to leaders and seen as a team member advocate. You can assess a situation and recommend solutions aligned with Trupanion’s culture and goals. People seek your advice because you mix strong business insight with HR know-how and creative problem-solving.

    Performance Management - You believe in consistent, real, and honest feedback. You help leaders provide the most productive, ongoing performance feedback and help the company in continuing to build capability around regular goal setting, feedback and coaching, and performance assessment.

    Operational Excellence - You deliver HR services seamlessly, both building new solutions and iterating on existing ones. You are accurate, timely and have a passion for providing good service. You find ways to increase quality, efficiency, and team member satisfaction.

    Artful Analysis - You analyze information across a variety of sources to build a complete story and identify trends and areas of opportunity. You use data to help influence change and recommend improvements to the team member experience.

    Experience:

    • 3 years of experience in an HR Leadership capacity as a Director, or Senior Manager of a People/HR function
    • Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience, with proven expertise as an HR Business Partner
    • 5 years handling employee relations - coaching, advising, and investigating team member needs and concerns
    • Experience working in a complex and evolving work environment with expertise in guiding effective organizational change
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills both written and verbal. Strong verbal, written, presentation and influencing skills
    • Experience working with remote teams and leaders is a plus!

    • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to both think strategically and be tactically effective
    • Knowledge of Human Resources practices and employment laws, both US federal and state and Canadian federal and provincial requirements; UK or global knowledge a plus

    Compensation:

    • The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $150,000 on a full-time schedule.
    • Along with the base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses.
    • We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
