Job Summary:
The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks including Drosophila/mouse husbandry, tissue dissection and processing, western blotting, immunostaining, and molecular biology techniques. The candidate will also manage basic laboratory procedures such as ordering and making solutions and help in manuscript writing.
Scope:
One-year grant-funded Research Technician.
The Research Technician will provide technical laboratory assistance on an externally funded research project (AHA) designed to investigate signal transduction pathways that regulate mitochondrial function in Drosophila model system and mammalian tissues and cells.
Principal Responsibilities
- Independently conduct experiments and record data using western blots, immunostaining, and other experimental techniques
- Analyze data and draw appropriate conclusions.
- Manage Drosophila stocks/mouse colonies.
- Assist with dissections on laboratory animals.
- Prepare reagents, wash glassware, and other general laboratory duties.
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
- Willingness to use laboratory animals in research is required
- Must be capable of working independently
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a related field and
- At least 2 years of laboratory experience are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with molecular biology is desired but not required.
