Pure Tax is a growing tax consulting firm with a national presence through virtual offices located in major metropolitan areas throughout the United States. We are a hybrid firm employing Circular 230 agents (i.e. attorneys, C.P.A.s, and enrolled agents) as well as staff accountants and support staff. Our main focus is on civil issues (i.e. compliance, resolution, and penalty abatement). The office where this position will be offered is Clearwater, Florida location.
Pure Tax is currently looking for a licensed attorney to join our team. However, if you are an attorney candidate who has recently met all requirements to get a law license (e.g. received a degree from a qualified law school, passed a bar exam, passed an ethics exam, and passed a character and fitness review) and are just waiting for your law license to be issued, we would love to hear from you too. This is an entry-level position. No experience in tax law is necessary, and we will provide on-the-job training for resolution work, if needed. This training may require that the candidate meet with seasoned staff, in person, for a while then working from the Clearwater office most days.
We are seeking a self-motivated team player who can work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines. And an ideal candidate will have some general knowledge of accounting and taxation and alternative dispute resolution, specifically negotiations. Preference will be given to candidates with tax background (e.g. C.P.A. who is an attorney too or an attorney with a LL.M. in taxation) or have worked in this industry before.
“This attorney’s main duties will include, but will not be limited to, civil resolution work mainly before the I.R.S. or other taxing authorities (e.g. State of Florida). Resolutions will be determined by the client’s facts and circumstances and may involve several alternatives. This attorney will explore all alternatives, present them to the client, and move forward according to the client’s directives. Secondary duties will include providing tax advice to clients, which may require legal research and writing. Third, this attorney will be responsible for completing some tax forms (e.g. resolution forms like offers in compromise or installment agreements) and informational returns but will not be responsible for completing income, estate, or gift tax returns. Last, this attorney may be responsible for drafting appeals to the I.R.S. Office of Appeals but not the Tax Court. As this is not a litigation firm, our attorneys generally do not practice in the Tax Court or any other federal court; however, being admitted to Tax Court is a plus.
Compensation will be in line with experience, ability to contribute to the team, and ability to contribute to the firm’s bottom line. Paid holidays and paid time off will be available after a probationary period is over. Position will be full time with a target of 35-40 hours worked weekly.
Interviews will begin shortly. To be considered, please provide a complete resume and proof of active law license or acceptance to a Bar pending a law license being issued. If selected, employment will begin immediately after an offer is made, or if you are waiting for a law license to be issued, immediately after you are a licensed attorney.
