Position Summary
A Tax Supervisor is responsible for the timely preparation of complex tax returns under minimal supervision, and provides direction and coaching to Tax Accountants and Senior Tax Accountants. Tax Supervisors communicate directly with clients to provide exceptional service and assistance regarding tax matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Assumes full responsibility for tax returns, and delegates and trains various tax preparers.
· Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist other departments with larger clients.
· Acts as resource for tax preparers and to other departments on specific tax issues and/or questions.
· Researches, prepares, evaluates and assumes tax preparation responsibility for more complex returns.
· Assumes service responsibility for clients delegated from the partner or for clients for whom they work directly.
· Communicates to appropriate firm staff important tax and tax developments affecting firm’s clients.
· Supervises and works to develop accountable, engaged, proficient staff by assisting in recruitment, performance feedback and training programs.
· Assumes responsibility for efficient tax returns through team interaction and use of tax preparation systems to assure accurate, complete and timely preparation and delivery of clients’ tax returns.
· Demonstrates and supports the firm's mission and vision through firm initiatives and development.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; Master’s degree in taxation preferred.
· A current and valid Certified Public Accountant’s license required. Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
· At least five (5) years of experience preferred in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return preparation, review and research.
· At least one to two (1-2) years of experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers, preferably recent experience.
· Ability to represent clients before taxing authorities.
· Proficiency in use of tax preparation, research and planning software programs.
