Being a Teacher Aide helps teachers resolve classroom issues and conflicts. Monitors and evaluates students' performance. Additionally, Teacher Aide typically requires an associate degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher Aide works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Position Summary

    The UNM-Taos Center for Early Education is seeking applicants for multiple on-call Teacher Aide positions.

    Under the guidance of the preschool director, and or Teachers of Early Childhood, the teacher aids with assist in  providing a safe and developmentally appropriate educational environment where Preschool, Toddler and infant children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Provides quality early childcare and promotes learning experiences for children ages 0-5.

    Conditions of Employment
    • Ability to secure and maintain a valid UNM Driver's License.
    • A valid New Mexico Driver's License, or ability to obtain a valid NM Driver's License within six months of hire, is required for this job.
    • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
    • Must work towards and/or maintain current CDA certification. 1st course must be started within 90 days of date of hire and 1 course completed each year thereafter. (Main Campus employees)
    • Must obtain and maintain current adult, child & infant CPR and First Aid Certification. Initial certification must be achieved within 6 weeks of date of hire. (Main Campus employees).
    • Must complete the NM 45-hour entry level training course, or equivalent, within 90 days of date of hire. (Main Campus employees)
    • Successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and CYFD fingerprinting background check.
    • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
    • Must maintain Department of Defense security clearance.
    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • AA or BA in Early Childhood Multicultural Education (must be actively working on BA)
    • Knowledge of routine care for Preschool, Toddler or Infant children
    • Knowledge of child care licensing and NAEYC Standards
    • Experience in classroom management skills, environment and settings
    • Experience in observational assessment
    • Knowledge of  Preschool, Toddler and/or Infant development and milestones
    • Ability to communicate with parents and families effectively
    • Ability to mentor ECME student employees
