Teacher High School prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned secondary school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Incentives for this position (based on the 2023-2024 Board approved salary schedule):

    • Dysart will recognize up to 10 years of experience at $800/year. (For example, if you have 10 years of experience, you will get $8000 added to the base salary).
    • An additional $6600 added to the base salary as a 301 base starting year 1.
    • An additional $1500 stipend for the first year.
    • An additional yearly retention stipend of $1000 when teachers return.
    • An additional yearly $6400 performance bonus starting semester 1 of 2nd year.
    • An additional yearly $250 instructional improvement fund added to the base starting year 1.

    Teaching Assignment for this Position:

    • Teach 5 sections of science (environmental science, biology, chemistry) and/or elective classes.
    • AZ Secondary Certification with science endorsement
    • AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card

    SUMMARY: To create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Teaches district approved curriculum.
    • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
    • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
    • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conference, etc.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
    • Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
    • Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
    • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
    • Plans and coordinate the work of teacher aides, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
    • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
    • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student work.
    • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
    • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
    • Other job related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    • Valid Arizona teaching certificate.
    • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
    • Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
    • Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
    • Principles and practices of program administration.
    • Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
    • Best practices, trends and emerging technologies.
    • Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
    • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
    • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.

    SKILL IN:

    • Applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
    • Interpreting an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
    • Performing basic original research to assist with developing teaching plans and instructional materials.
    • Maintaining and updating documentation.
    • Organizing and maintaining records, files and program information.
    • Gathering data, analyzing findings and applying logic and reason.
    • Authoring and preparing original reports, documents and presentations.
    • Researching industry trends, solutions and best practices.
    • Maintaining confidentiality.
    • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.
    • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

    Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
