Teacher High School prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned secondary school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.      Position Purpose

     

    -  To fill in for an absent certified staff member, providing direct supervision for students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives.

     

    Essential Job Functions

     

    -  Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills. 

     

    -  Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.

     

    -  Provides administration of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.

     

    -  Follows classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.

     

    -  Follows record-keeping procedures to document student attendance, learning and performance.

     

    -  Utilizes classroom behavioral management procedures to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.

     

    -  Copies, distributes and uses educational materials as needed.

     

    -  Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement of IEP objectives.

     

    -  Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.

     

    Additional Duties:

    -  Assists students in non-instructional areas, as assigned, such as supervising the student lunch programs, arrival/dismissal duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.

     

    -  May accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.

    -  Perform any other related duties as assigned.

    -  Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.

     

    -  Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.

     

    -  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.

     

    -  Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.

     

    -  Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

     

    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

     

    -  Works in standard office and school building environments.

     

    -  Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

    Qualifications Profile

     

    -  Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

     

    -  High School diploma or equivalent.

     

    -  Successful completion of college level coursework.

    - Certification as Substititute Teacher (can be obtained after selection)

     

    -  Prior experience working with children desirable.
