Teacher High School prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned secondary school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Westchester Country Day School, a Pre-K through 12th grade independent school located in High Point, NC, seeks an Upper School English teacher to join our faculty starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. Responsibilities typically include teaching five sections of Upper School English classes in addition to serving as an Upper School advisor and club sponsor. Westchester’s Upper School English classes combine literature and composition and include the following course titles: American Literature Honors, World Literature Honors, AP English Language and Composition, AP Literature, Advanced English 10, English 10 Honors, and English 9 Honors.
The ideal candidate holds a B.A. in English, preferably a Master’s degree in English or education, is comfortable with and knowledgeable of a variety of student developmental levels and skills, designs lessons that develop critical thinking and reading skills, and has experience teaching writing at the secondary level. Experience teaching at the middle or high school level is preferred.
