Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     JOB GOAL:

    To provide culturally embedded, student-centered, thematically-based, and literature-rich instruction in the secondary classroom that meets district standards and benchmarks. Instruction should focus on engaging students in meaningful activities to ensure they master oral language proficiency and biliteracy in Spanish.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Plan lessons for daily instruction that derive from district standards and benchmarks.
    • Align educational experiences in the classroom that reflect the philosophy and expectations of the world language program.
    • Conduct the majority of instruction in Spanish.
    • Commit to district-wide PLC collaborative initiative, evidence based grading structures, and alignment of course sequences through co-planning with colleagues to ensure program cohesion and student success.
    • Structure activities in the classroom to encourage students to engage in both language input and output, to facilitate oral language production and comprehension.
    • Effectively differentiate both content and language learning to ensure that all students successfully meet outcomes.
    • Assess student progress in a formative manner in oral and written language development, and adjust instruction according to the results of those assessments.
    • Use a variety of strategies to maintain frequent and regular contact with parents.
    • Seek frequent opportunities for professional and language development.
    • Work proactively to promote and support second language learning and bi-literacy throughout the school and district.
    • Plans, develops, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials appropriate to support the learning of students from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
    • Is dedicated to implementing teaching practices that focus on student engagement and student growth.
    • Provides whole group, small group, and individual instruction to students, and effectively utilizes the time available for instructional activities.
    • Maintains appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement.
    • Embeds social emotional learning opportunities for students.
    • Proficient in instructional technology and has experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) and working in a school that is a 1:1 environment.
    • Other duties to be determined and as assigned.

    PREFERRED

    • Native or native-like Spanish-speaker.
    • ESL/Bilingual endorsement.
    • Ability to support reading and writing development in the target language.
    • Experience teaching heritage speakers, or in a dual immersion or bilingual education program.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors or Masters degree in Spanish Education.
    • Applicants must have or be able to obtain a teaching certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board with a Spanish K-12 or Spanish 6-12 Endorsement, required. (http://ptsb.state.wy.us).
    • Advanced - Mid on all four domains of ACTFL proficiency scale.
    • Understanding of dual immersion programming and research.

    The School District places employees on salary schedules on the basis of:

    • Wyoming experience.
    • Out-of-state experience up to 7 years.
    • Degree – Bachelor's, Masters, or Doctorate.
    • Semester Graduate Credits beyond Degree.

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
